Progressives don't even realize how easily they're manipulated.
Here's how this clearly went down:
Platner, worried about all of the skeletons in his closet, started gaming out who had keys to that closet & how to deal with them.
Ex-girlfriends like Lyndsey were the key focus.
Rather than waiting for someone to start leaking embarrassing details (kinda like his wife did, inadvertently), Team Platner & the NYT convinced Lindsey they would take their claims seriously, convinced them to give them exclusivity, so that they could control the narrative.
The resulting article on its surface is about Platner's ex girlfriends giving a range of reviews, some positive, most negative. But the main focus is on Lyndsey, who, the Times knew, would be written off among left-wing voters as a Republican operative trying to keep Susan Collins in the Senate. As Lyndsey explained this morning, the Times had details about his psychically abusive nature with other (presumably non-Republican) ex girlfriends, but for some reason chose not to publish them.
In this way, the story amongst Democrats can be more easily dismissed as a Republican hit job. Then thousands of progressive accounts, like the one below, unwittingly help complete the op.
Crisis Comms in 2026.
Let me explain something to Democrats commenting on Talarico being a “seminarian,” apparently believing that automatically makes him the Christian choice.
And you probably won’t get it, but that’s okay. I’m going to explain it anyway.
In the Book of James, people who assume the mantle of teacher but spread heresies are said to have “stricter” judgment that your average sinner. False teachers are repeatedly warned against throughout the scriptures, described as the worst types of wolves.
In other words, while you can point to Paxton’s past transgressions, and that’s fair to talk about, you need to understand that what Talarico does and has done is no less sinful.
And for the average devout Christian who isn’t part of a progressive heretical body, they see that and know that.
You may not get it. You may think all this Christian stuff is just about saying a few words. But it’s not. Heresy is a grave sin, and something Christians are expressly told to flee from.
So Christians are going to take that issue seriously in this race, even if it seems silly, unimportant, or unfair to you because you think, “Well, Talarico is nice so that makes him righteous.”
Not how it works.
If Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats had paid attention my October 2025 AG’s Opinion that made clear this scheme was unconstitutional and illegal, they could have saved more than $70 million, countless headaches, and months of obnoxious television ads defending the indefensible.
Instead, they ignored the law, wasted taxpayer money on running a special election, and dragged Virginians through a completely avoidable mess.
The most important thing to remember about Virginia today -
Democrats have NOBODY to blame but themselves. And maybe their lawyers.
There are CLEAR, firm rules for trying to do what they did - and hey brazenly flouted half of them.
Their voters should be furious.
Massachusetts has a larger share of Republicans than Tennessee does Democrats, and Massachusetts has not had a Republican in Congress in decades.
There is not a moral or just reason to require Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina to carve out special, racially-balkanized Democratic congressional districts while blue states are allowed to gerrymander their districts to prevent Republicans from having representation. The Supreme Court has rectified that antiquated and unfair rule.
When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
Remarkable Times article about how Democrats' good government instincts backfired and hamstrung their ability to gerrymander.
Only problem? Basically the entire history included in the article is wrong. Dems ~never willingly gave up gerrymandering. 🧵

Many thanks to @bdomenech for the invitation to write about progressive Christianity for the newly revamped opinions section of @realDailyWire:
French is making, in his treatment of Talarico, the precise error he has spent years denouncing, an error that malforms Christianity as a packaged whole. He is accepting the appeal of a charming political figure while setting aside the doctrinal catastrophe underneath.

Maybe it's out there, but I haven't seen evidence of Talarico's faith pulling him away from positions partisan incentives would lead him to embrace. Instead (from what I've seen) it looks like the opposite: post-hoc faithy-sounding rationalizations for on-trend Dem positions
It is not decent to twist scripture to lead others to hell. It is not decent to claim whiteness itself is like a virus. It is not decent to use Christ’s conception as a justification for abortion. It is not decent to reduce women to “neighbors with uteruses.” Only if you have been radicalized by your critics can you land at this position.
I blame the complete ineptitude, rigged elections, and hijinks of the original College Republicans -- the College Republican National Committee (CRNC) -- for everything we're seeing right now with these off-shoots
