Cool piece of history in my @IndStAthletics office of legendary coach John Wooden. Not only was he the head basketball coach but he was the baseball coach in 1948. Since our current @IndStBaseball program is in the thick of a @MVCsports race, thought this would be great to share!

As I sit here writing this, the range of emotions I feel is overwhelming and hard to put into words. The laughs, the tears, and the countless moments we shared as a basketball team with Ralph will never be forgotten. Every time you met Ralph, he was always smiling and lighting up the room as soon as he walked in.

I first had the honor of meeting Ralph Lux when I was in junior high, sitting behind the varsity bench. Even then, Ralph was already the Waldron Superfan.
By my freshman year, Ralph had been offered the role of manager for the Waldron boys' varsity team.
Ralph is Waldron basketball.

After wins, you’d never see a happier person on the bus ride home. But after tough losses, Ralph would sometimes cry on the way back. I would sit with him on those rides, trying to console him as a player. It was hard to comprehend just how much he cared.

One of Ralph’s traditions was writing a play to give to the coach before each game. It was his way of contributing and showing his unwavering passion for the team.

When I was asked to coach in 2011, memories of Waldron basketball—and especially Ralph—came flooding back. Ralph has been an inspiration and a highlight of my basketball journey.

Fast forward to 2024, when I accepted the position as head coach of Waldron Varsity basketball, the first person on my list to call was Ralph Lux and his family. I knew that to be successful, I needed Ralph’s support.

It has come full circle—from my junior high basketball days at Waldron, when Ralph was already Waldron’s Superfan, to my first freshman game when it was Ralph’s first day as the official manager, to my last memory of Ralph storming the court on December 21st after our county rival win.
That was Ralph!

This year, to honor Ralph, we’ll be wearing black bands on our jerseys.

There will never be another Ralph Lux.
