@intent_dev 100%! I love this text. Maybe some of the computer science is dated, but Haugeland's philosophical analysis is still exactly what is needed! It is also a great introduction to the philosophy of mind too!
Adherents of religion who dogmatically assert that aliens or UFOs are demons are the height of provincial, epistemically closed thinking. We live in an age where we have access to so much information we can study. There is no excuse for this sort of rubbish.
This week @JaredZimmerer and I think dialectically about progress and The End with the Wizard of Negation!

Something we don't talk about nearly enough is the epistemic problem at the heart of UFO disclosure. In short—how do you trust information that is coming from the very people and institutions who job it was to lie in the first place?
Even that is grossly oversimplifying things.
Because black budget programs of the kind that would house secret UFO-related programs generally have a budget of 6x-7x the size of the regular budget just for security.
What does that look like in practice? The Bennewitz case gives us some insight into how elaborate these scenarios can be that are used to manipulate people and shape the narrative in the community.
In an environment that is so deeply compromised, how do we know what's true?

How well do we really understand our? How many of our most cherished memories are actually symbols of our repressed fantasies? @JaredZimmerer and I take up these troubling questions as we discuss Freud's "Screen Memories."

It's been a longtime coming, but @JaredZimmerer and I have finally gotten around to discussing Nietzsche's notion of the Overman.

@JDMadden3 and I dive into Nietzsche’s essay on the ways in which history can either build or destroy a culture. This was a fun one.
