Excited to be one of the first (if not the first) sites in the US to put a @DDNintelligence ES400x3 into service this past week. Great to have an end-to-end PCIe Gen 5 all-NVME system serving our @UofIllinois research systems! #hpc#hpcstorage
Excited to speak at LUG 2025, hosted by @Stanford! Giving a site update for @NCSAatIllinois and sitting on a panel about Lustre and its role in AI infrastructure with Andreas Dilger, Julie Bernauer, and Cameron Harr #lustre#hpc#hpcstorage#lug2025
It has been great working with VAST on the launch of Harbor which provides mission critical storage services to all open science infrastructure at @NCSAatIllinois#hpc#hpcstorage#sc24
At #SC24, VAST Data announced a strategic partnership with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, empowering researchers to accelerate AI workloads and unlock new scientific discoveries.
With the VAST Data Platform, NCSA has transformed operations with faster data access, streamlined infrastructure, and GPU-optimized performance, supporting critical research across disciplines.

Granite’s new hardware has arrived and got installed yesterday and the data migration is getting underway. Excited to open up @NCSAatIllinois’s Granite system to @ACCESSforCI researchers soon!! #hpcstorage#hpc#tapesnotdead
LCI Intermediate workshop was this week at @UofOklahoma with 40 attendees making the trip! I had a great time teaching the storage and monitoring content #hpc#hpcstorage
Really excited to bring our Granite system to NSF researchers via the @ACCESSforCI ecosystem and expand capacity for @UofIllinois researchers! Also was fun to PI my first @NSF award
NCSA is gearing up for major upgrades to Granite, our data storage system, w/ a generous $500,000 grant from the @NSF. Granite's tape drives & media will be upgraded to the latest LTO-9 technology, enhancing both storage density & system performance. 1/

@glennklockwood This is true, though my understanding was cluster switch requirements were more strict in that configuration
I hope so too on the mixed environment
@glennklockwood That’s honestly the bigger news in my book, the service separation and back end switching can go away. Wonder if some type of mixed environment will be supported, mostly “Ebox” but with the ability to add C-Boxes as network translators for other fabrics (ala LNET)
Exciting week of instructing at the LCI Beginner workshop in Tempe this week, hosted by ASU! Have had a great time teaching the HPC Storage and HPC Monitoring sections to a large and diverse class of 41 students #hpc#hpcstorage#linuxclustersinstitute
NCSA and @DDNstorage are bringing a new file system to the @NSF#HPC community. DDN Infinia will aid data management demands of NSF artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads on NCSA's Delta and DeltaAI. #computing#AI#data

Enjoying Day 3 of #SC23 in Denver, great as always to meet up with colleagues, peers, and partners from across the US and around the world #hpc#hpcstorage
@glennklockwood Once Intel dropped Optane (which DAOS initially required for metadata) a path such as this was inevitable IMO. Intel works on SW to help sell their HW. No more optane/ssd business sold to Solidigm, Intel has little interest keeping it going outside Aurora contract obligations.
@IanCutress I don’t think Apple will put WiFi 7 in anything until after the standard is ratified next spring. Seems un-Apple to use a draft WiFi standard
