@UtahCollegeReps Did Jesus say Hey I'm gonna be coming back to America in the 1800s but that won't be the Day of The Lord yet.
Or did He say watch out for people who say stuff like that after I'm gone?
@BasedMikeLee Is there an objective view? Who gets to define Christianity?
It would seem the majority view, and view of LDS based on their own teachings, is that they are separated from historic Christian faith.
So it seems just calling them by their own name is most accurate.
@SinvexActual@DrInsensitive@BasedMikeLee Facts. A lot of churches have been converted into churches of this world. Often easily recognizable by rainbow flags and wacky pastors.
@BamaExpat@ZaidJilani They have a works-based salvation based on a very funny notion of Jesus having returned twice already and now you must live a perfect life.
So they entirely reject the gospel. If you want to call that Christian it's up to you.
@SweetSavvySavio This is why I say Mormons can be saved. Even though it is not a historic Christian faith and they teach another gospel. It is still possible to have a saving faith in Jesus, even if you misunderstand aspects of His being.
It is not an ideal environment, but definitely possible.
@TaglesTopGuy Mormons consider all other Christians to be apostate and I'm not offended.
So why can't they handle the reverse criticism? Is it because they know it's true we're not apostate and it's really them hoping to make the cut?
@nimber_9@Latterdaytruth I wasn't referring to any past event or anything particular to your life. How would I even have known that?
Likewise, you cannot know that I have "animosity" toward anyone (I don't believe I do).
Making a lot of false assumptions. Probably leading to some false conclusions.
@plasmarob That you could make such an absurd statement should really have you think about opening up your mind to why the Christians are disagreeing with you.
@HeRoseAgain1@Schilling1776 Almost. Fortunately Jesus gave us the criteria for salvation and God's ways are higher than man's. Because if it was up to us we'd compete with works and boast of our truly-assured salvation.
@DrInsensitive@BasedMikeLee Having spent some time in Evangelical non-denominational churches-- they are really some of the last Christians to start saying every other denomination is false.
However most Christians (that have studied the topic) consider Mormons to have gone too far off topic.
@DrInsensitive@BasedMikeLee Their most controversial position is Two Kingdoms Theology. Which many consider to be a pretty big error, but few (that I am aware of) would consider disqualifying regarding salvation.
Did you have something else in mind?
@DrInsensitive@BasedMikeLee If you like. I'm not one (most of my neighbors are) so I probably am not in the best position to debate. However, knowing enough of their theology, I'm rather certain that most are Christian.
However, there's a wide "spectrum" of Mennonite, and some may cross into works-based.
@TaylorRMarshall Just because some Baptists may not explicitly hold to the Nicene Creed, does not mean any of them would actually disagree with it.
That's a big difference, and where Mormons fail that specific test.
@BasedMikeLee It can be corrected by putting Jehovah's Witnesses and "Christian Scientists" into a category with LDS. We can just be nice and call it "Another Gospel".
@willole@BSpackman My theology is most aligned with reformed baptist or presbyterian. I haven't been to church in several months. The social aspect tires me and I lose enthusiasm for faith in general as a result. So I take breaks. I've also moved a lot in recent years.
