Jacob Misiorowski will not pitch Sunday against the Pirates, Pat Murphy said. They will be cautious after he felt some fatigue from his last start. He’ll go into the All-Star break with 1.62 ERA in 18 games.
Robert Gasser will start tomorrow.
@ThePoniExpress August 5, 2012 - The Pirates lead, 6-2, in the ninth. AJ Burnett is one out away from posting consecutive complete games. After back-to-back walks, Clint Hurdle brings in Joel Hanrahan to record the final out. There was no choke slam.
@TribLIVE@KevinGormanPGH@TribSports I was there. We actually missed his third AB due to a food run - the only one he didn’t reach. So, if you’re looking for someone to thank for his success, it would be me.
@AustinRBechtold Martin accumulated 9.8 bWAR in his two seasons (238 games) in Pittsburgh. He was so good, in fact, that Toronto gave him a 5-year, $82M free-agent deal. Were you even a teenager during his time here?!
@NoahW_25 The guy has a .357 OBP. That would be in the top 25 in the NL if he had enough plate appearances. On a team with a top-5 SLG in baseball, he's doing exactly what they need.
I’m not sure if @AustinRBechtold falls into this category, but it is funny to me when people consistently downplay traditional statistics, then use them to argue about something as meaningless as an All-Star selection.
@JMackey_PGH They can do it because they gave Lowe and O’Hearn the day off against Christopher Sanchez - a move that was universally panned at the time. They split the Philly series anyway and now have a shot to take this one.
@Wins_Williams They were six games over .500 a week ago. Their current losing streak has come against the Dodgers, Cubs, and Dodgers again. I wouldn't bury them yet.
@northsiden0tch It was 5-1 in the seventh. That's not a leverage situation, so it was clear that he'd be relied on for length. Now the rest of the bullpen is fresh for this afternoon.
Don Kelly's first move as manager was firing the game planning and strategy coach. Derek Shelton was frequently accused of using predetermined decisions - which some said were influenced by the front office. Now the knives are out for Kelly for not making a traditional call.
Good lord this manager. He lets Keller come back out for the 7th, which is the correct decision.
When the lead-off batter hits a double, you take him out of the game! Especially when the next guy is a LH batter.
This isn't rocket science.
#Pirates now down 3-2
