Seen some people mis-categorize what happened here. As a former outfielder, here’s what happened. Shortstop gave up on it too early, he should go for it until he hears the left fielder call it.
The left fielder couldve ran harder as well, but Id put the shortstop more at fault
The rules around baseball scoring make no sense.
Yesavage should have been at 6 IP, 1 ER, 72 pitches.
Instead, it's 6 IP, 5 ER, 87 pitches at the conclusion of that inning.
Mets are really running out of time to get hot and gain some ground. It took some incredible baseball to turn 2024 around from a similar position. I dont see that happening with this group
Interesting to hear Taylor say he was sitting on first-pitch curve ball from Bednar that he hit for game-saving HR. It was a hanger but still. Said it was part gameplan per their hitting coach, part watching how Bednar pitched previous hitters in that 9th inning. Savvy.
The top 11 Mets in plate appearances this season all have a xwOBA higher than their wOBA. This should indicate all of them are due for positive regression.
However that does include Alvarez, Lindor, Robert and Polanco who are all currently injured
@iHatejeffwilpon Maybe not by May 13th, but Nimmo was contracted for 5 more years. Benge Ewing and Morabito were all promising at the time and will likely be more valuable (at least per dollar spent) than Nimmo
The mistake at this point was acquiring Semien in return
I was very impressed by Ewing’s debut. 5 quality plate appearances. Looking forward to watching him play more. I think we have 2 quality outfielders in Ewing and Benge
Mark Vientos said running through Tim Leiper's stop sign had nothing to do with the losing streak
"I was just following my instincts. Once I saw the ball was hit off the wall, I was like I'm going to go score on that"
