A multi-agency operation has led to the recovery of 163 missing children, Florida officials announced on Aug. 25.

“Many of these kids have been victimized by those who prey on the most vulnerable,” Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said in a statement.

The effort, dubbed Operation Statewide Shield and lasting five days, was a statewide operation that was focused on locating and recovering missing children.

The Trump admin is revoking visas of people who came as short-term visitors then claimed asylum to stay permanently.

“We’re identifying and revoking nonimmigrant visas of foreigners who claimed to be short-term visitors but then filed for asylum,” State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said.

Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau said in an Aug. 24 post that “people in the US and all over the world are fed up with bogus asylum claims.”

Landau emphasized that asylum is meant to provide safe harbor for individuals fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, or political opinion.

But the system is flooded with frivolous claims that take years to decide. Meanwhile applicants can work, have kids and put down roots.
