How about instead of saying “she shouldn’t have been jogging at 4:30 in the morning”…we say that no one should be fearful of being abducted or killed on a run. She did nothing wrong. #bebetter#ElizaFletcher
What happens when students, families, and community members help write a district's strategic plan? Here's the story of "inclusive co-creation" in Burlington School District, VT: https://t.co/ti3zLg6lab @NextGenLC@CIEleadlearning@JFletcherVT@doannietran
By not teaching kids about racism, they can assume White people have more because they are more. Banning books on POC reinforces this assumption as it leads to kids seeing more White people in the curriculum. This isn’t protecting White kids. This is protecting racist education.
@VTLakeMonsters maybe just beef hotdogs next year? Just witnessed a bunch of kids discover that these hotdogs have pork and then not be able to eat the awesome .25 hot dogs on hot dog night because they only brought a few bucks each.
In the coming weeks, you’ll have dozens of interactions that set the tone for the year. Who do you want to be? How do you want people to experience you? What would it look like to slow down, set aside the task list for 10… 15 minutes and just BE with folks? To listen deeply.
Check out my homie and white antiracist leadership consultant @jbenkovitz getting busy here in Vermont. Discussing the illusion of white fragility and taking accountability.
This is it. Go read and share widely. Thank you @ChristieNold and @LadyOfSardines for this thoughtful well-written piece. #DisruptTexts

Pushing back on the “learning loss” narrative & viewing children through a lens of abundance is not the opposite of powerful, effective teaching, it is the stuff that galvanizing school years in which children outgrow themselves again & again are made of!
Reflection: Is it time to have education majors in colleges begin working at local schools as substitute teachers? Is it time to update and integrate the student-teaching experience? Can we merge college ed courses of theory with practical experiences like subbing 2 days a week?
@AlexSVenet@addisonmduane Definitely. When I started my doctoral program I kept thinking, "Why wasn't I looking at this research before?" You named all of the reasons!
Every time I assign something and a student asks
"Is this for a grade?"
At first I get kind of annoyed. And then I remember that WE did this to them. It's not their fault--they've adapted to our broken system of carrots & sticks
🧵 : Today someone asked me, “Aren’t kids going to be overwhelmed by how behind they are?” To which I responded, “Behind whom? And in what ways?” Kids are only going to feel like this if adults MAKE them feel like this. “Learning loss” is an adult problem foisted on kids.#MAedu
#vted friends- please remember that many of our students’ parents will be deploying in the next few months. On top of everything else, this stress is unimaginable.
If I “accidentally” inject a patient with Glucagon (⬆️ blood sugar) instead of Epinephrine (counteracts anaphylaxis) & the patient dies, I lose my nursing license & could be criminally charged, esp after 16 yrs in nursing. Whoopsie doesn’t work when you have lives in your hands.
