Colts never aggressively pursued a Nelson extension this summer, setting the stage for an eventual trade.

"I really thought the Quenton Nelson deal was gonna get done with the Colts this offseason..

He wanted to stay in Indianapolis" ~ @RapSheet

Lions opening 21-day practice window for safety Kerby Joseph.

Pairing Joseph with Brian Branch, who returned to game action last week, will do wonders for Lions’ pass defense.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

Something to consider with Colts: They develop OL well and DT Adetomiwa Adebawore an ascending talent. Helps offset the losses of Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner, at least a little bit.

Losing skill players a different story. Colts already thin in the passing game. But if the floodgates for the rebuild are open…

Josh Downs, a few minutes ago: "I’m open to whatever. Whatever comes my way, comes my way and we go from there.”

Whew.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

Downs has garnered trade interest from multiple teams but a deal hasn’t materialized yet, and with the Colts’ clear rebuilding efforts, Downs wants to be moved, which is known in the building.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

Sources: Colts WR Josh Downs is requesting a trade from Indianapolis.

Steelers leaning into jumbo packages, Jaylen Warren showcase. Will it last?

The Colts had significant interest in Quenton Nelson, who will help steady the Seahawks’ running game.

Massive day in Indy, which is likely not done dealing

[Stephen Holder @HolderStephen]

Not sure I've ever seen a team trade its offensive and defensive cornerstones in a SINGLE day. What a wild few hours. I'm not sure people outside Indy truly understand the gravity of all this. Man.

Buckner desperately wanted to be part of a winner this year, now gets the chance - his original chance.

[Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter]

Trade: Colts are sending three-time Pro-Bowl DT DeForest Buckner back to the 49ers, the team that made him a 2016 first-round pick before dealing him to Indianapolis in 2020, per me and @rapsheet. Now Buckner returns to San Francisco, fortifying the 49ers defensive line.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

The Packers, Bears and Eagles were among teams that showed varying levels of interest in Quenton Nelson, per source. His market was strong.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

Several teams inquired on Nelson, which expedited his market.

[Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter]

Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and @rapsheet. Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency.

But an all-time Colt now moves on to the Seahawks.

Free agent DL Dean Lowry is finally signing with the Giants today, source confirms (as @DDuggan21 said)

An injury stalled initial plans but he’s now healthy, a Giant.

[Jeremy Fowler @JFowlerESPN]

Veteran DL Dean Lowry plans to sign with the Giants practice squad, per source.

Lowry enters his 10th NFL season, has 16.5 sacks and 271 tackles.
