With under 3 weeks to #BiodiversityDay (22 May), the message is clear: action starts where you are.

On #EarthDay, the Executive Secretary @SchomakerAstrid calls for renewed action for Mother Earth 🌍
“Today let us all commit to the accelerated implementation of the #KMGBF: for Mother Earth and for all people who call it our planet their home.”
@EarthDay#OurPowerOurPlanet
At #RES2026 we at @UNBiodiversity are joining H.E. @TokayevKZ's call to place nature at the pinnacle of policy attention.
Biodiversity is the foundation of life on🌏. We will continue working with Central Asian countries to support efforts towards living in harmony with nature.
The #RES2026 high-level session on “Harmony with Nature for Regional Resilience” highlighted the impacts of environmental degradation in Central Asia.
Living in harmony with nature is a pathway to regional resilience. The #KMGBF constitutes a holistic road map to get there.
In the lead-up to @UNBiodiversity#COP17Armenia, this #RFSD2026 side event will highlight how education (formal, non-formal & informal) can serve as strategic accelerator for #KMGBF implementation at regional & national levels.

Grounded in the theme “Acting locally for global impact”, the #BiodiversityDay 2026 logo pays tribute to local actors worldwide advancing the KMGBF—the global blueprint to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, working alongside governments and partners.

I unequivocally condemn the massive strikes by Israel across Lebanon on 8 April that resulted in hundreds of civilians being killed & injured, including children.
With the announcement of the ceasefire between Iran & the USA, the ongoing military activity in Lebanon poses a grave risk to the ceasefire & the efforts toward a lasting & comprehensive peace in the region.
Hostilities must stop immediately.
International law must be respected.
Civilians & civilian objects must be protected at all times. Attacks against them are unacceptable.
There is no military solution to the conflict.

Every day the war in the Middle East continues, human suffering & devastation grow, indiscriminate attacks grow & the perils to our world grow.
The conflict is being felt everywhere.
We must find a peaceful way out.
The spiral of death & destruction must stop now.
At #SBI6, Parties to the CBD reached broad agreement on key enablers for implementing the #KMGBF including finance, gender equality, capacity-building, and cooperation — paving the way toward #COP17 and the first global review of progress.

Congratulations to @EU_Commission🇪🇺 & Uganda 🇺🇬 on leading the way on the submission of the 7th National Reports under @UNBiodiversity.
I urge other Parties to follow suit. Timely submission is critical for the 🌏review of progress in the #KMGBF implementation at #COP17Armenia.
As 2025 comes to an end, @SchomakerAstrid reflects on a year of collaboration and progress for biodiversity.
Moving into 2026, @UNBiodiversity thanks all partners and extends warm end-of-year wishes to our global community.

#SB8J just wrapped up a historic first meeting in Panama City.
This Subsidiary Body is the outcome of decades of advocacy. #SB8J_1 made important progress.
To tackle biodiversity loss, we need all hands on deck, including the hands & voices of the custodians of biodiversity.
The #COP17Armenia side-event at #SB8J_1 highlighted the need to:
-build on #COP16Colombia achievements
-accelerate the #KMGBF implementation
-foster synergies between the nature & climate agendas, and streamline national implementation
Thank you for your commitment, Armenia.
Today #SB8J_1, the 1st meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) of the CBD, begins in Panama City.
Consensus at #COP16Colombia delivered the historic agreement that established it. We owe it to indigenous peoples and local communities around 🌍 to make that moment count.
What are Invasive Alien Species (#IAS) and how is this issue being addressed under the Convention on Biological Diversity?
