I enjoyed sharing thoughts on building multimodal text sets while critically reflecting on positionalities and representation. Referenced ideas from my @RoutledgeEOE book & some I'd written in @VoicesNCTE Grateful to @TEDxPSU for the opportunity to speak! https://t.co/F1OV1TbW8f
Read the newly updated version of our position statement The Students’ Right to Write: https://t.co/2PfXtafC4p
It lists NCTE's beliefs regarding writing and the rights of student writers of all ages and includes recommendations for educators to support them.

Yes, it's January 2024, but September 2023's issue of @VoicesNCTE is about to make it to print. The best things are worth the wait, right? This volume year, we can't wait to introduce you to @Nicole_Mirra and @anterobot's work on speculative civic literacies!
We don't talk about our own children from a deficit lens. No one calls their own child a Tier 2 kid. Teachers need to talk about students like their own kids. First, treat them like humans. Next, love them. @GholdyM#elate23
I will always argue that rap, when done well is one of the highest forms of literature. The most revered writers of antiquity could never have imagined the layered rhyme schemes, cadences, metaphors, entendres & other elements at play with such pace. To even process takes skill
Last year, a coworker randomly asked me to hand-deliver an antique violin across the country. I said yes, because why not. I had no idea what I was getting into, and now I need your help. A 🧵
On Colbert last week I mentioned my 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Mueller, who after reading a poem I wrote, told me I could be a writer when I grew up. I never forgot those words. So what an utter delight when I looked up from the signing table in New Orleans and saw Ms. Mueller there!
This is disgraceful. @MrsBonner301 has decades of experience, a doctorate in edu from @IllinoisStateU, multiple national awards from @ncte. She is exactly the kind of teacher we need but was ousted for a CHOICE book supporting LGBTQ+ students and honoring students' right to read.
Last week, my friend Sarah (@MrsBonner301) “involuntarily resigned” from her classroom teaching position.
I am so disappointed with the ways our schooling systems are failing our best teachers.
With her permission, I'm going to share Sarah’s statement of resignation. 🧵
I love so much about @ClintSmithIII's interview with #Colbert, but what I love most is his story about writing his first poem and the enduring impact of a teacher's validation and encouragement. https://t.co/31UKHkQw1M
Stunned that this is how I’m perceived, not a dad who coached my kids’ baseball & hoops teams, worked at SI for Kids. Volunteers… 😢 Why GOPers fear Jerry Craft's cartoons https://t.co/yXztUkaBPK via @msnbc
