"India is a dynamic environment for American students to learn and for faculty to conduct research. This is a time for India to prioritize 2+2 programs and shorter programs to provide more flexibility." - Mr. Marvin Krislov (@PaceUniversity) at the #USISPFIndiaSummit2024.
A REFLECTION ON @WCBS880.
1/4. If you lived through 9/11, you don’t need it explained. If you didn’t, it’s hard to fully understand. The professionalism shown by the 880 news team is hard to wrap your head around. When it felt like the world was ending, calm voices had info.
Every year, a lottery determines who gets an H-1B visa to work in the US. The game, it turns out, is rigged.
Outsourcing and staffing firms are exploiting loopholes, crowding out US employers and immigrants who play it fair.
We have exclusive data to show it for the 1st time 🧵
“A deepening housing shortage is costing New York City nearly $2 billion in annual tax revenue while driving residents out of the five boroughs and locking others into homes that don’t fit their needs…” https://t.co/jsZ18SASQL
BREAKING: Nvidia stock, $NVDA, is now trading with a market cap above $2.5 TRILLION for the first time in history.
To put this in perspective, Nvidia is now larger than Tesla and Amazon COMBINED.
Furthermore, Nvidia is now larger than the entire German stock market.
Nvidia is larger than the market cap of the Italian and Australian stock markets COMBINED.
5 years ago, Nvidia had a market cap of just $100 billion.
It is now the 3rd largest public company in the world and 17% away from being larger than Apple.
Truly insane.

Huge news for anyone working in tech in the US.
Noncompetes are now banned: not just in California (like before), but nationwide. Very, very relevant for anyone at Amazon (which is the Big Tech that has enforced noncompetes even for low-level engineering positions).
Zuck says in this interview that the main barrier to AGI soon is energy, which expands at regulatory, not technological, pace. He notes that there has yet to be a gigawatt data center.
Data centers used to have to be placed close to demand, for speed reasons. But AI training is not real-time and can presumably be placed anywhere.
Why doesn't Meta build a gigawatt data center in the UAE or some other place with lots of sunlight and few regulatory barriers? Train the huge models there, and then run them (inference) in smaller datacenters closer to demand

Almost 25 years ago, I moved to Las Vegas. The next year, I got a job briefly as a web designer for the Southern Nevada Water Authority. (I was not a good fit. 😂) I took tours of the water system from Lake Mead to take pictures for the website.
I was confused.
Thread: Not all Notre Dames are equal.
Consider the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, Notre Dame of Maryland, Notre Dame de Namur in California, and Notre Dame College of Cleveland, which just announced it's closing its doors.
