Under older CFB post season systems, a team had to play near-perfect in the regular season. Very few teams could do it, but every team had a chance to ruin their rival's chances. It was the best regular season in sports b/c it was about rivalries for all 130 teams.
@jontweetssports@AmalackJack Not just making the natty, but the way that whole season went down. I'd never seen us beat down our rivals like that (even if it took the 2nd try with auburn).
@dawgsports Wasn't a fan of the asymmetrical stripe for the longest time, but it's definitely grown on me. Maybe because they've made the stripe pattern a consistent part of their branding lately.
College football feels dead inside because it veered off the Widespread Panic / Allman Brothers cultural spectrum. It went from being big-hearted and brash to being completely Morgan Wallen-ified. It needs less WWE and a little more Billy Strings in its soul to find itself again.
July 28, 1973 at Watkins Glen. 🌧️
A massive storm cut the set in half and turned the festival grounds to mud. While everyone took cover, Garth Hudson stayed out at his organ to play "The Genetic Method" for a soaked crowd. Once the rain let up, the rest of The Band stepped back out and dropped right into "Chest Fever."
@the_JHughes@GrahamCoffeyDC Hey man, at the end of the day, about 130 will come away without a natty, so as fans we all have to find something to be happy about. Seems like you're a TU fan, so you'd understand that more than most.
@the_JHughes@GrahamCoffeyDC No less imaginary than beating a sub par team in the 1st round. UGA beat every team they played last year. CFB is about beating your rivals. The CFP is about the natty. If you want to put so much value on a win that has "CFP" slapped on it, that's your prerogative, have fun.
@the_JHughes@GrahamCoffeyDC UGA got an extra win in the SECCG - other teams didn't. It's just as valuable as beating JMU, Boise St., Clemson, etc. in the 1st round. Playoff wins have less value now than in the 4 team playoff in general. You want to talk about the next rounds? Only 1 team wins it all.
Kirby Smart on the criticism of OC Mike Bobo: 👀🔥
"Do you think Mike Bobo gives a shit what anybody says? He doesn’t care what they say about him. I’m not worried about it. Go ask some of these other coaches around the country—they’d take Mike Bobo in a heartbeat."
58 years ago today, The Band released their debut album, Music From Big Pink.
The record was born inside a pink house in West Saugerties, New York, where Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, and Levon Helm hammered these songs into shape. They crafted a sound that pulled rock back toward something older and truer, across eleven timeless tracks including "The Weight," "Tears of Rage," and "I Shall Be Released."

51 years ago today, Bob Dylan and The Band released The Basement Tapes.
The music was famously recorded in the basement of Big Pink in West Saugerties, New York. The cover looks like it was shot there too, but it was actually staged in the boiler room of the Hollywood YMCA. Photographer Reid Miles packed the room with a crowd of characters pulled straight from the songs.
Which characters do you recognize from the lyrics?
@Vern_Funquist One of the things that annoys me the most about these people so mad at Saban for dominating CFB is how so many of them disingenuously argue that he doesn't want players to be paid. That, and that his market value as a coach is related to the argument at all.
