6:46 AM Sunday - Another dangerous flash flooding set up is expected to continue across the Hill Country through Sunday morning. A large complex of slow moving, torrential rain developed Saturday night, and this complex will continue to slowly sag southeastward into the KVUE area. While not every location in the Hill Country will experience flooding, where the heaviest rain develops the flooding threat could significant.
Over 8 inches of rain has already fallen north of the KVUE area in the San Saba area prompting a rare Flash Flood Emergency. Importantly, this flooding north of the KVUE area is likely to send more water into Lake Buchanan, which is now within about 5 feet of full pool.
The Weather Prediction Center continues to outline a 'moderate' - level 3 of 4 - flash flood risk for the Hill Country through Sunday morning. In this zone, isolated pockets of rain could approach 10 inches.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of the KVUE area along and west of I-35 that continues through 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Through the morning of Sunday, the widespread heavy rain will continue to impact many parts of the Hill Country, particularly Mason, Llano, Burnet, and northern Gillespie counties.
Again, the flooding in certain locations could be significant and potentially life threatening. Both flash flooding and dangerous flooding of river and creeks will be possible. Ensure you have a way to get weather alerts, and have a plan to get to higher ground if needed if you live near a flood prone creek, stream, or river.
The flood risk is lower for the Austin metro and I-35 corridor, but it's certainly not zero. Scattered to numerous heavy downpours are expected by mid to late morning into the afternoon. A level 2 of 4 flood risk has been outlined for most of the I-35 corridor, so also monitor the forecast closely in these locations.
Coverage of rain is likely to diminish through the late afternoon and early evening, but some scattered downpours will remain a possibility through the evening and early overnight.
