@VerizonSupport Currently without Fios service in Astoria, NY (11103). Seeing an online message that Fios is out until 8AM tomorrow? Can you give some info here?
Hey @AmericanAir - heads up that Leah (and co-worker Sara) at the MSP check-in desk was super helpful with a 4:30am emergency. Please give them a big raise.
I could get around this by solving the puzzle when it comes out at 10pm tonight ... but I'm not gonna.
I'll be breaking a crossword-blogging streak (assisted!) that goes back to early '07. Happily.

This is Max, just about 16 years old. I'm trying to save him from a life of idleness and/or crime. So here's your friendly reminder that we have a Discogs store, now available via @AstoriaVinyl https://t.co/K6l3WGPGTF

@AOC Looks like you'll (likely) be our new Rep. Welcome to Western Astoria. If you're around this summer, get in touch - my family's been here for about 25 years. We'll take you for a walk around the neighborhood.
Concrete Winds - "Nerve Butcherer" Nuclear-powered INSANITY. Everything = distorted, the drums are splitting at the seams, RELENTLESS vox, + the guitars are whack-job suffocating. 90 min of batshit crazy crammed into a 27min LP. A schoolyard taunt delivered by a circular saw.
@bandcamp Fri recommends- '21 METAL:
2021 was SUCH an amazing year for metal that I had to break them out separately. If inhuman vocals, atonal guitars, & a blur of drumming aren't your thing, please go look at the other list. If you like pain, each of these bring it ...
Our Place of Worship is Silence - "Disavowed, and Left Hopeless" My favorite genre of metal: stuff that doesn't sound like it was made for or by humans. SO many WTF moments - they lean *heavily* into a sound I call the squidge-chug. Damaged, and I mean that as HIGH praise.
Hawthonn - "Earth Mirror" A real slow burn, including the 1/2 dozen times I needed to listen to it before I finally gave in. Electronics, lots of reverb, drifting female vox ... this is not the 1st time it's been done, but there's a certainty of execution that won me over.
@bandcamp Fri: Best new music 2021(in no order)
Okuté - "Okuté" Dynamite OG Afro-cuban stuff that's feels like the golden hour on the sidewalk, playing dominoes. I like the description "someone gave the Buena Vista Social Club a cup of coffee". Album cover of the year, easy.
Dijah SB - "Head Above Water" One of my most listened-to records of the year, because some times you just want clear-eyed optimism. DSB's strength isn't so much in her rap technique, but more that her old-beyond-her-years delivery feels immediately like wisdom and, clearly, hope.
