Let me just say something.

I've known Data Republican longer than most of you. She became an online friend back when my X account was much bigger than her X account.

I saw her making predictions about the 2024 election that were different than everybody else, grounded in novel analyses of data points nobody else ever looked at, and even before the actual election results proved that she was the most accurate electoral analyst on Planet Earth, I like to flatter myself and think that I spotted her analytical genius very early on.

I got to know her as a result of my admiration for her work.

I have talked to her a lot over the past couple of years. She is genuine. She is who she says she is, in every way. She is not an "op." She is not funded by [FILL IN THE BLANK OF WHATEVER ORGANIZATION YOU DESPISE]. She is an independent, extremely smart person with strong Christian moral convictions. She does what she thinks is right, and she stands in the fire bravely, in a way that few of us could ever bear.

Is she perfect? No. We all make mistakes. But you know what? When she does, she owns up to those mistakes, unlike 99% of the other "influencers" out there.

Which makes me admire her even more.

If you are one of those people who keep insisting she is some sort of paid information warfare operative as part of whatever conspiracy du jour has infested your inflamed cerebral cortex, you can just stick it, idiot.

I feel meetings should have happened first to determine whether someone was even amenable to receiving these documents and putting out the “scoop”before they were handed over. And remember a private citizen doesn’t have anything close to the cover or protections that the NYT or Washington Post would have.

Second, not every release marking was scratched out as it should be if made for dissemination. You simply cannot take documents that were released to a congressional committee for a specific purpose and then decide they’re fair game for public release. If I was handed those, I tell you honestly, I would have believed FBI was setting me up. It’s not like entrapment isn’t uncommon.

This wasn’t thought through or handled professionally. @DataRepublican handled it with the ethics and judgment one should expect her to exercise. She’s not a leaker, and frankly, that’s a good thing. It’s not “savvy” to be the person who plays that game, by the way. It’s dirty, and it’s a hell of a risk to take with someone else’s career and reputation.

I'm thinking about writing an article that explains in broad terms--for the benefit of non-veterans--why most GWOT veterans have such loathing for the senior uniformed leadership that Trump and Hegseth have run off.

Major reasons I can think of so far:

1. Eagerly implementing the racist, sexist, esprit de corps-destroying policies of DEI across the force.

2. Creating and endorsing restrictive ROE that valued the lives of terrorists over the lives of American servicemen and women.

3. Never telling the President "Sir, we will never be able to transform the 8th Century savagery of tribal Afghanistan into a modern, liberal society no matter how hard we try. It's a fool's errand."

4. Forcing troops to take an experimental COVID vaccine whose risks were deliberately hidden, and then conducting life-destroying Salem witch trials on anyone who refused.

5. Never resigning in protest over any of the above and instead protecting their potential for post-retirement, lucrative service on the boards of directors of the only groups profiting from the GWOT.

I know there are lots of smaller issues, but I'm trying to capture the really, really MAJOR ones that most of us agree on.

imo you literally get that “spark” all over again. everything is a new experience to your kid. seeing a bug? coolest thing ever. eating ice cream. amazing. going for a car ride. painting a picture. even every day normal activities like grocery shopping are an incredible experience with them. holidays like christmas, easter, halloween etc all feel like how they felt like when you were a kid again. everything is exciting again because you are seeing the world for the first time through their eyes

The United States government regularly funds and supports research, academic exchanges, and other engagements with overseas universities. Dishonest, corrupt institutions that engage in, or reward, scapegoating mob behavior are not desirable partners for us. This is particularly true where the purpose and effect of the scapegoating is to punish accurate journalism unearthing academic dishonesty. We are therefore reviewing any relationships we have with Ghent University.

Bad-faith idealogues will try to make this a referendum on the content of Cofnas’s scholarship – or polemical distortions of it. That’s wrong. Free speech means that controversial views are protected. And Cofnas’s views were known to Ghent University when he was hired.

The ultimate purpose of freedom of speech is to overturn lies, fraud, and false ideologies. This is precisely what Cofnas was doing, and precisely the reason his home institution wants to silence him.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The reason an ideological movement can end up cheering something this grotesque is because eventually the ideology has to defend the implications of its own worldview.

To be precise, applauding a defense attorney is not necessarily applauding the killing of children. But if the celebration becomes about transforming the accused mother into a political symbol, something MUCH darker is happening.

A worldview that treats motherhood primarily as burden, children primarily as constraint, and female agency as the highest moral good eventually encounters a horror it cannot explain without questioning its own premises.

So responsibility gets dissolved into systems, oppression, trauma, medicine, anything except the possibility that a woman can possess agency and commit evil.

That isn’t compassion at all. Compassion can recognize mental illness, demand a fair trial, mourn a broken mother, and still keep three dead children at the moral center of the story.

The moment an ideology needs the children to disappear from the frame so its preferred symbol can remain innocent, it has fully inverted the altar.

You can tell what a civilization worships by whose suffering it asks you not to see.

Ghent University could have just sat back and watched Cambridge's reputation implode from a safe distance. But for some reason they decided that they too wanted to destroy their reputation and be humiliated.

As a result, millions of people who had never heard of Ghent University before now associate it with punishing one of their own researchers for exposing plagiarism and academic fraud.

But Ghent leadership is so ideologically captured that they believe all of this actually makes them look good.

There couldn't be a better example for why viewpoint diversity matters. They have a glaring blind spot, but nobody there can see it. So they're happily driving off a cliff.

On the day Karmelo Anthony fatally stabbed Austin Metcalf, prosecutors report he sent a text message at 1 a.m. that read, “I’m lowk on the verge,” and then stressed the point further.

Later that morning on April 2, 2025 - only hours before Karmelo Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf to death at a high-school track meet - prosecutors state that Karmelo Anthony’s girlfriend told a Centennial High School staff member he was “engaging in stalking behavior, to include, but not limited to, driving by her home and refusing to allow her to end their relationship.”

In a 75-page filing, prosecutors also note that Karmelo Anthony had earlier been accused of taking his girlfriend’s phone and, in October 2024, drafted a “to-do” list instructing her how to handle quote “weirdos,” which included the line “say sum slick like my bf kill people.”

Text exchanges further reveal that he admitted on at least two occasions to punching girls in the face.

Prosecutors located 2021 messages between Karmelo Anthony and another student discussing robbing someone for $300.

Other texts show Karmelo Anthony recounting a fight and punching someone “so hard he had to stop fighting.”

In 2023, prosecutors say Karmelo Anthony told a friend he planned to vandalize a house in Austin, Texas, writing, “I just feel like it, I gotta grudge.”

In 2021, Karmelo Anthony informed a friend he had been suspended for three days after fighting, adding, “they said next time I do sum I get recommended for expulsion,” court papers show.

In a 2023 text exchange with a friend, prosecutors have messages in which Karmelo Anthony wrote “Imma shoot the school up tmr” “with my blick,” but later followed up with “I would never actually do that.”

In a 2024 thread, prosecutors state Karmelo Anthony admitted to carrying a firearm, telling a friend before a party he would have “the gun in my pocket.”

The records also contain message threads in which Anthony mentions carrying a gun.

After multiple suspensions for fighting while in school in Louisiana, messages between Karmelo Anthony and his girlfriend surface after he moved to Frisco.

In one exchange she suggests he simply sit for a while; he said, “yea and punch ppl maybe run sometimes,” “I have to it’s like a priority for me,” “I like punching people,” “when get mad I see red,” “when I get mad I blackout,” “when I get mad I can’t control myself.”

Prosecutors also showed messages in which Karmelo Anthony admitted to getting high and drinking alcohol and even discussed selling drugs to obtain guns.

In 2024, prosecutors say Karmelo Anthony tried to assault a teacher, stating “I put my hands in face and everything.”

Also 2024, messages recovered by prosecutors suggest Karmelo Anthony attempted to take a weapon into the State Fair of Texas, asking a friend, “if the state fair got metal detectors.”

When told that detectors were in place, the friend replied, “you got the poker”; “yea I might have to toss it,” Karmelo Anthony answered.

Prosecutors report that Karmelo Anthony confessed to stealing a watch and earbuds in separate Collin County burglaries and to bringing a weapon onto a Frisco school campus, and remarked about his girlfriend, “she went in my bag to get my computer and I said no and she still went in it and grabbed it and my gun and my knife and some other stuff fell out.”

Numerous unreleased photos and videos show Karmelo Anthony holding firearms and making threats.

Authorities found a note on Karmelo Anthony’s phone containing a list of
racial tropes and slurs about Blacks, whites and Hispanics.

In one message, prosecutors say Karmelo Anthony wrote, “I hate gay ppl.”

Prosecutors add that Karmelo Anthony repeatedly threatened to murder his girlfriend in texts, including lines such as “how many bullets u want coming out of ur chest” and “I’m going to get you (expletive).”

He also threatened her with a knife in one message and told her in another, “when I stab somebody I’m gonna lick their blood off the blade.”

Jason Arday shouldn’t be dead.

But he is dead - because he didn’t tell the truth.

And Cambridge University didn’t look for the truth - because he’s black.

And fellow black professors didn’t ask for the truth - because he is black.

Jason lied repeatedly.

And he told the exact lies that allow one to excel in the system that elite universities have adopted.

A system that factors in race, hardship, and lived experience under the banner of equity, instead of pure performance.

Nearly everyone in these institutions ignored Jason’s lies, to try and protect black people.

They called the people seeking the truth racists.

Of course there were some racists.

But the majority of people just wanted the truth.

Avoiding the truth didn’t help black people.

Double standards in academia aren’t helping black people.

They hurt the perception of black people who are truly the best, and would have held prestigious positions at elite schools, solely off the merits of their performance.

Double standards always backfire.

Even when well intentioned.

Even when intended to correct for past oppression.

Race-conscious hiring and admissions have created a situation where it is rational to wonder whether a black person has achieved their position because they were simply the best, or because they were good enough, and black.

This is not a racist thought.

It’s a rational thing to wonder when a system promotes people based on race.

It’s a thing I’ve wondered about myself, as someone who graduated from Harvard - which had race-conscious admissions.

No amount of insistence that it’s racist will make it racist.

It’s no more racist than it would be to wonder whether a white player got into the NBA off of just performance, if the NBA decided to focus on “fixing” the underrepresentation of white people.

This is the logical downside of race-conscious hiring and admissions.

You can think the downside is worth the upside.

But the downside remains.

Calling people with legitimate concerns racist didn’t protect black people.

It didn’t protect Jason.

It hurt black people who have earned their positions.

And it allowed a troubled man who built his career on lies to rise to a height so great that his fall from grace killed him.

We could have just had the truth.

Instead, we have a tragedy.
