My laptop is official use only, and friends sometimes wanna get angry when I say don't plug nothing in my PC.
No..!! You can't use my PC to copy files from your hard drive, it's not wicked, it's me been cautious.
I'm a law student. My laptop has nearly $2,300 worth of licensed software, case files, and research for my final project. It never leaves my desk.
My dormmate kept asking to borrow it because his laptop was "too slow for Netflix."
I said no.
Every single time.
"There's too much important stuff on here. Use the library computers."
Apparently, that wasn't the answer he wanted.
One day while I was in the shower, he took it anyway.
While using it, he knocked over an iced coffee.
The keyboard died instantly.
The motherboard was fried.
Repair costs were around $1,000.
Data recovery was another $400.
When I confronted him, he just shrugged.
It's only a laptop. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?
Then he assumed my parents would just buy me another one.
They wouldn't.
I spent two summers working internships to afford it myself.
The RA told us:
"You guys should try to work it out before making this official."
I tried.
He refused to pay.
So I filed a campus police report and took him to small claims court.
The judge ruled in my favor.
He ended up owing me about $1,400.
To cover it, he picked up extra shifts and ended up failing a class.
Now people on our floor say I "ruined his semester over a laptop.
No.
He ruined it the moment he decided my property was his to use.
Some have food but cannot eat
