MTN is a genius at marketing and I can explain.

They gave access to everyone for free 25gb data to celebrate their 25th year anniversary. We were all happy 😆 💃

Initially we were meant to get the data from the MTN app but guess what happened… the app stopped working about 2 days before their 25th anniversary(as experienced on my device) leaving the most accessible option to be the MTN eShop website.

Why this move?

Simply to advertise what they sell on the eShop. Because Nigerians won’t go to the eShop section on the app to buy most gadgets they need.

So if millions of people troop into the website for something free. A percentage of those people will stop to see what they are actually selling on the eShop. And some might even go ahead to place orders.
