I have a serious question for the BBQ guys in America.
Let’s say you invite me to your backyard BBQ. I show up with a gift, some soy sauce, wasabi, and a bag of Japanese rice.
Then I pull out a rice cooker and start making a fresh pot of steaming white rice.
Would you think I’m being incredibly rude, or would you just laugh and hand me a plate of BBQ?
Because in Japan, rice isn’t just a side dish. A lot of the meal is built around what you’re going to eat with that bowl of rice.
So I’m genuinely curious… would this be acceptable BBQ etiquette in America?
Remember that Sriracha shortage during covid? Apparently the company screwed their only pepper grower of 28 years. After they recorded how he grew the peppers with a drone and handed it off to other growers they terminated their deal and sued him for $1.4 million.
He counter sued and got $23 million. And sriracha has never been the same since. The new guys cant grow the peppers to the same size and ripeness like the old farmer.
