i love how we all hate flock cameras because of the obvious reasons (lack of privacy, being used to stalk, soooo many false accusations and arrests) but also the guardrail guy is showing how they will also just kill you bc of how negligently they are installed.
The "graveyard hypothesis."
Coal ash: about 750 million tonnes. Every single year. Laced with mercury, arsenic, and lead.
Wind blades: about 43 million tonnes. Total. Cumulative. Through 2050.
You wrote a manifesto about the smaller pile and skipped the mountain next to it.
This is a significant part of the issue.
Police can't really be held accountable on a personal level, and Flock is quite careful to contractually limit its own liability even when the system can record an inaccurate vehicle description and plate.
Even if we assume >90% accuracy, when vehicles pass a Flock camera billions of times in aggregate, even <10% error could be millions of errors.
If the police act on one of these errors, shouldn't the provider of the data bear some liability for that, contractual disclaimers of liability notwithstanding?
🚨 BOMBSHELL! Top journalist Ana Kasparian confirms Texas police use unregulated AI Flock cameras to track women crossing state lines for abortion pills.
She reveals the company blatantly lied to city councils.
The establishment is building a massive tracking database!
Who is building the library of videos released before 2025 because I do actually think it’s important for me to use stock footage of species of fish and coral that, like, exist.
BOOMER: "I fed my family of four on $30 a week back in 1970."
ME: "That's $230 adjusted for inflation."
BOOMER: "Exactly. You should be able to do the same."
ME: "Groceries for my family of four are $400 a week now."
BOOMER: "You're just buying expensive stuff."
ME: "I'm buying the same basic food. Milk, bread, chicken, vegetables."
BOOMER: "Well wages must be higher too."
ME: "My job pays $50,000. Yours paid $35,000 in 1970. Adjusted that's $270,000."
BOOMER: "That can't be right."
ME: "It is. Your salary grew with inflation. Food prices grew faster."
BOOMER: "You're just complaining."
ME: "You're just not looking at the math."
You didn't have better budgeting skills. You had wages that kept up with the cost of living.
Mine don't.
Both German immigrant Peter Thiel and South African immigrant Elon Musk have now publicly stated that not every American citizen should have the right to vote.
Thiel said women shouldn’t vote.
Musk says “takers” shouldn’t vote.
They should both be denaturalized and exiled.
Not true. In their list of grievances, the Founding Fathers complained that King George III was blocking colonial laws that would promote immigration and make it easier for foreign settlers to become citizens.
NYC’s energy grid is maintained by a private company that reported over $2B in profit last year.
The capitalists in charge of upgrading the grid are reaping profits by price gouging customers and demanding customers deal with the decrease to quality of life.
Hope this helps.
🚨WHAT ON EARTH?!!!
Over 100 Flock cameras that were set to "go dark" at the end of June after city council voted to shut them down...
...have bizarrely just REMAINED ON and the police are still using them
On June 17, the city council's safety committee voted to END the contract because when they asked police to prove these cameras actually reduce crime, the police could point to only 3 cases that led to convictions.
So the city council let the contract expire on June 29th, but then people noticed the cameras were still up...
...because Flock VOLUNTEERED to keep running them for FREE while the city "figures it out."
In fact, police confirmed they are still running them to "keep the community safe" and the company agreed to keep the system live, despite the contract expiring.
It gets worse.
When reporters asked simple questions like... is data still being collected? Do the cameras shut off or keep recording? Who can access what was already stored? It turned out that neither the city NOR Flock would answer.
So just to recap:
The contract is expired.
The elected body said no.
Nobody re-authorized it.
Flock won't say what it's doing with the data.
...but the cameras are STILL ON and being used by police
I am genuinely so upset about this. I remember my parents telling me how cool and unifying the bicentennial was, and I even collected the special quarters as a kid
now, Trump ruined my chance to experience something similar and turned the entire thing into trashy MAGAslop.
Theodore Roosevelt said the national parks were the greatest gift this country ever gave itself, and the greatest idea we ever gave the world.
More than 100 nations copied it.
Donald Trump looks at that gift and sees a piggy bank for his own pet projects.
This week we learned where our national park money has been going. Not to Yellowstone. Not to Yosemite. To the walkway outside his office, where Trump ripped out American flagstone and laid down Italian granite at a cost of $689,000 to taxpayers. He said he paid for it himself.
That was a lie.
To cover his vanity projects, they are robbing the parks. Spending on parks outside Washington is down $854 million. More than 900 projects went unfunded. They even pulled money from a guardrail on a Colorado cliff that the Park Service flagged as a safety hazard.
I serve on Appropriations.
The power to spend belongs to Congress, not to a king redecorating his palace. These parks are not Trump’s to loot.
They belong to all of us, and I will fight for every dollar.
You're "just not that into politics?" Your boss is. Your landlord is. Your insurance company is. And every day they use their political power to keep your pay low, raise your rent, and deny you coverage.
It’s time to get into politics.
