#GeniusHour is a time for John McCandless students to show their creativity while seeing #STEM concepts in action! Last week, 2nd Graders used cardboard, popsicle sticks and paper towel tubes to build bridges. This was a fun way for Owls to learn about the engineering process!

Do you know what elephants brush their teeth with? You can make it with hydrogen peroxide, yeast, dish soap, food coloring and water. In Ms. Kinser’s class this month, our 4th Graders got to try this experiment out to see energy and reactions firsthand! #elephanttoothpaste #STEM

Happy Unity Day, Owls! Our staff members wore orange t-shirts reminding everyone that it's cool to be kind, while students built stronger bonds with their friends. This was a wonderful day of acceptance for all! #UnityDay #OwlPride

JMC families got a tour of our many great United States! This morning, 5th Graders shared their State Projects with students, parents and staff. Visiting Owls learned about the history, culture, wildlife and most famous residents of South Carolina, Georgia, New York and more.

Our 1st Graders recently got a science lesson from a local weather expert! Earlier this month, @rcarlmark of @ABC10 showed Owls how severe weather conditions can interact to impact our climate, and even gave some students the chance to be on TV. https://t.co/sYgzDTrOG4

Owls are excited to show school spirit with their own tie-dye t-shirts! Families gathered yesterday to add green and blue to our custom-made Owl shirts. Students will get to wear these at rallies and spirit events throughout the school year! #TieDyeNight #BackToSchool #OwlPride

Owls can gain a lifelong passion for music at John McCandless! This year, in addition to Band for 5th and 6th Graders, we are offering a new Choir class for 4th - 6th Graders. Last week, Lincoln Unified teachers showed our students what a powerful instrument the voice can be!

Last year's 7th Graders and 8th Graders celebrated a wonderful spring semester with a trip to our nation's capitol! Owls recently learned about US history while spending time with their friends at significant monuments like the White House and the US Marine Corps War Memorial.

There is force at work all around us! The JMC Force Museum gives our students the chance to show how they are applying their STEM education with interactive displays and demonstrations. Yesterday's event was a celebration of science, as well as our local history and community!
