@cubscowbull14@AramLeighton8 Now, in fairness, we can't know how accurate any of that is.
But that was the perception, and that's where the boos are coming from.
@cubscowbull14@AramLeighton8 Yeah, this is the thing.
It's not that he fell off in the second half.
It's that it never felt like he wanted to be there. And then there were the reports after the fact about how unengaged he was in the clubhouse.
It seemed like he went thru the motions and didn't really care
@FergieboyQ_21@Michael_Cerami Yeah, I don't see him opting in. If he has even a remotely okay end to the year, he can make more than $12M
And pushing his FA back til he's 34 does him no favors.
@FergieboyQ_21@Michael_Cerami I've been thinking about this.
There was a ton of talk about getting Skubal in to start recruiting him early; why not the same for Holmes?
He's an ideal fit for the makeup of the Cubs roster, and he's old enough (33) he's not gonna get some mega deal in free agency.
@tron1785@Brett_A_Taylor I imagine Alcantara goes back down.
Then from the pen, I'm gonna guess Woodward and then two of the following three: Thornton, Civale, Ferguson will get sent down/DFA'd.
@cubsfan2033@Michael_Cerami Braxton Garrett, yes.
He's been in AAA most recently for Miami, though. I do wonder if the Cubs will keep him down there for now and expect him to be in the rotation next year.
Or perhaps they envision using him in the bullpen this year, I guess.
@UnderHitsMLB@Michael_Cerami Which is to say: Moving forward, I'm he - as any reasonable person would be - will be at least a little skeptical of that source moving forward.
@UnderHitsMLB@Michael_Cerami Counterpoint (assuming, which i suppose is not a fair assumption, the source(s) who gave him the detmers deal were the same as the one(s) who gave him previous deals): If someone repeatedly gives you correct info, what reason would you have to doubt it?
I'm gonna need the "Jed doesn't make big moves," "Jed is asleep at the wheel" crowd to stand up and take their public shaming.
Holy shit the cubs front office has been busy today.
Guessing that pretty much ends the Detmers talk.
Legit feel bad for Cerami on that front. A lot of the replies on his post are legitimately disgusting, and I was really pulling for him to be right (plus, I like Detmers for the Cubs)
@jeremydelby@CubsZone I don't understand why people keep suggesting his name. Why on earth would the Blue Jays trade him in the first year of his deal? They just made a buy trade to bring in Soriano. Clearly they're still looking to be good in 2027+, and trading Cease does nothing to help that.
@Brett_A_Taylor Without getting into specifics, have you heard any surprising names/names not among the ones getting broad publicity (Detmers, Holmes, etc.) floating around in the background/in connection to the Cubs?
@asapron1@Michael_Cerami A 28 yr old starter with a FIP that has consistently outpaced his results the last three years and is under team control thru 2029? Yes.
