@RedsDaily4 RF is where he needs to be, but that means he wouldn’t be able to play every day if everyone is healthy because Steer has to be in RF sometimes against RHP to keep Belday and Lowe both in the lineup.
Suarez may need to be the one to sit more against RHP, but they won’t do it
@KB_48@RedsInFour I was with you on the small sample size, but this last start giving up 11 hits really concerns me. Over 40 innings we’re staring to edge our way out of small sample size territory. That’s getting to about 1/4 of a season. I’m hoping he figures it out, but I’m getting worried
@RedsInFour Never sell low.. just hold him and re-evaluate in the off-season.
Missed their chances at various points the last couple of years to trade him for a good return.
Have to hope he works some of this out and his value goes back up some.
@JayRBP@yuggs513 Blake Dunn is not an every day MLB starter. I like him in the bench/sub role that he was brought up for. He’s perfect for that. Let’s not get carried away though. Start him against LHP and bring him off the bench in other games.
@CharlieG__ I think Antone is ahead of Santillan right now and is our best right handed reliever at the moment (imagine saying that before the season started) m, but the problem is they have to be really careful with his usage, for obvious reason given his injury history.
@TonyGerdeman Chris Gamble
AJ Hawk
Ted Ginn
Troy Smith
Cam Heyward
HM: Nugent, Laurinaitis, Pryor
Love Doss and Will Smith, but they were recruited by and started with Coop.
Felt like the list had to be all Tress era or at least that’s how I took it.
@Clay_sno I’ve been saying this.. he barrels balls, but they are routine flyouts because he is a weak hitter. I’m all for analytics and do think he’s been a tad unlucky, but xBA is one of the most misleading and flawed advanced metrics. He hasn’t been as unlucky as some want to think.
@edrichards714@RedsDaily4 That 3 day max for retro was exactly the info I was looking for, thanks - not all heroes wear capes.
I knew there was likely a rule preventing them from back dating to his last start on 5/17.
Never underestimate the possibility though of phantom IL for being terrible. Haha
@bryancooke1@PeterInWiliston@Reds@PNCBank Normally I agree, but with Lowe on a heater and Bleday struggling I thought they might put Lowe in the 7 hole down in the lineup. Bleday DHing last night was a sign he’d be back in LF today though, which I’m fine with.
This is their best lineup against LHP they’re putting out.
@PeterInWiliston@Reds@PNCBank Lowe does not play against LHP and has huge career splits. Has never hit them well consistently.. but they do have to start one left handed batter (out of Lowe, Bleday, Friedl, Benson) so I kind of did think it might be Lowe today…. I think they’re liking Steer in the IF tho.
@CharlieG__ It’s the right move on Phillips, but kind of funny that they’re saying he’s not throwing enough strikes and then replacing him with Maxwell who has the same problem.
It's time for my yearly 'May 1987' tribute to Eric Davis.
He was 25 years old. He was the best and baddest man on the baseball planet.
His combo of speed, power and glove is hard to explain and appreciate if you didn't get a chance to watch him.
It was the best version of Davis we ever saw. He was the Player Month in April....and Player of the Month again in May!
He hit a major league record 19 HR between April/May. He hit a major league record three grand slams in the month. He had two homer and three homer game that month. He climbed walls to rob home runs.
That month, Davis was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, on the front page of USA Today Sports, and featured on Sports Center.
1987 Season:
.293-.399-.593-.991, 37 HR, 100 RBI, 50 SB, 84 BB, 120 R.
I like celebrating and remembering Eric. It will be my 8pm topic.
Let's discuss what he was....not what he could have been if not injured. Celebrate Eric The Red.
1987
April: .354-.437-.727-.1.164, 7 HR, 16 RBI
May: .329-.404-.841-1.246, 12 HR, 36 RBI
In 52 games from April-May 1987:
.314-.405-.696-1.102, 19 HR, 55 RBI, 26 SB, 51 R
New York Times story in May of 1987.
Pete Rose told Ralph Wiley: "Mike Schmidt's the best ballplayer I've ever seen. 'Johnny Bench is the best catcher, Joe Morgan the most intelligent player, Dave Parker plays the hardest and Tony Perez was the greatest R.B.I. player. But Eric Davis has more raw talent than any of those guys."
