OFFICIAL: The Miami HEAT have acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis Jr. from Milwaukee in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kasparas Jakučionis, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, three 1st round picks (2026, 2031 & 2033), a 2030 1st round pick swap and a 2033 2nd round pick.
Despite giving up haul of picks for Giannis Antetokounmpo…
The Miami Heat are in position to have first-round picks in three of the next four drafts following this year. That will help the Heat add young talent on team-friendly rookie contracts while Giannis is on the roster.
Pat Riley showing Pelinka there’s levels to this👀
You know what would be nice right now? If the NBA granted the Heat a one-time exception to cross the first apron hard cap by the same amount of Terry Rozier’s contract which they had to eat into their books last season without ever seeing him play a single game. Just saying.
Shams just said on ESPN that the Bucks are getting a bunch of calls on the pieces they got from the Heat. MIL looking to keep 'em unless they get an out of this world offer.
But you had people on here calling it the worst trade package for a superstar ever. Lmao.
Back in September 2025, we asked Giannis who his toughest opponent in the NBA is and the center he would pick for his dream lineup.
Hint: They will now be teammates 😜
"All Pat Riley and Spo want: They want titles. They're not playing to win the East. With Bam, Giannis, and Bobby Portis, that is the best defensive front line in the NBA. That matches up with Wemby."
@colincowherd reacts to the blockbuster trade sending Giannis to Miami
I was refreshing Shams all night and ofc went to bed literally five minutes before the news broke smh. Not that any of it – that he was traded, the destination, the return – was surprising, but man, a mega star still in his prime changing teams after 13 years with the same one is objectively momentous.
I'm extremely excited about the Giannis-Bam pairing under Spo and the potential for that squad depending on what else they do this offseason. Jovic getting back on track would be huge, too. I feel great about their defense, would like to see a little more shooting/scoring. But they're gonna be tough.
If you're a Bucks fan on board with the youth movement, you've gotta be happy with the return. They're a fun young team with a replenished chest of picks, and Herro coming home is cool. IMO he's a little underrated. I would've voted Rollins for MIP last season, and a lot of people mentioned Dieng when I asked about potential '27 winners recently. I've always liked him, and he really showed some stuff after the trade.
Jaquez is coming off a great year – I would've voted him 6MOY – and Kasparas remains highly intriguing as a 6'5 20yo PG. Ware, 22, is oozing with talent and felt underutilized at times in Miami. Will he put it all together in Milwaukee? Obviously we'll just have to wait and see, but he's got a chance to be a heck of a starting center. Count me as a believer.
I look forward to paying close attention to both of these teams next season. Seeing Giannis in a different uniform is gonna be wild. I'm just glad it finally happened!
