The thing about these "studies" is that sure the topic is worthwhile but what new and surprising is it really going to find? Meanwhile, $8 million would fund the salaries of like 100 reporters for a year. I'm not saying that's where it should go instead but....
Because some have suggested otherwise. It's not like that alternative has to be "centrist" in anything but tactics. Trying to appeal to voters means deciding what, of the things you're spending energy on, will make a difference in people's lives and what won't.
