@brendan_cubs Excellent thread. And yes hindsight is 20/20. But at some point, and you have to at least consider whether it’s now, the failure to produce results has to mean FO changes get made.
@DEvanAltman The MLB pitching was bad. The bigger problem is that we had - and have - nobody in the minor leagues to backfill it. Unless and until we can figure out how to develop pitchers, we are nowhere.
@DOM_Frederic Spot on. He is not the guy to build us a talent pipeline, which this organization needs if it’s going to succeed. It’s clear he has no idea how to do that. He needs to go.
@BenIsBack123 Start by looking for someone from the Rays, MKE or the Dodgers to begin with. The Cubs seat is one of the most desirable in baseball. You can get a guy. I don’t see substantially worse than Jed as a real risk. Worst case is probably no improvement.
Was listing to Kap's pod and Wittenmyer nails it. Jed's 2026 roster decisions were fine. People liked them when they were made. They didn't work out. That's baseball. Problem is he can't build a development machine and the ceiling for a Jed team is 90 wins. He needs to go.
@MegMontemurro For sure playing in Petco didn't help. That crowd was nuts. The Cubs just looked outclassed to me, and I believe it would have been the same at Wrigley. I do wish they had played at home. I would have gone!
@MegMontemurro That's what I took you to mean, but it seems clear to me that neither randomness nor venue drove the outcome of this series. Cubs just played badly and consistently with how poorly they played the final 6 weeks. No reason to think the outcome would have been different at Wrigley.
@AKirshner123 I fully blame Jed. His roster decisions were fine, but his overall inability to create an organization that can develop talent instead of trying to buy it is just killing this team. We need someone who can build us a player pipeline, and Jed is not that guy.
@sandrapoetry Especially with this group of players. They've all shown that they slump for extended periods and when they're in one, it just lasts until its over.
@jmals24@PCA4FC Gausman wasn't 100% healthy. Holmes has not been any more reliable than Boyd. There is literally nobody in the bullpen you could count on to get a stop. Counsell had no good choices here.
@brendan_cubs I think they should try making Brown, Steel and Horton into relievers. It seems pretty clear none of them has the durability to be a starter.
@brendan_cubs Those are the right questions for the front office. The more important question is whether the current front office is the right front office to be answering them. (Hint: it isn't).
