The camel is mentioned in Surah Al-Ghashiyah (88:17). Allah draws attention to the camel as a sign of reflection, asking people to observe how it was created — pointing to its design as evidence of wisdom, balance, and purpose in creation. Camels are uniquely adapted for extreme desert environments in ways that strongly align with modern science: their humps store fat (not water), which can be converted into energy and water when food is scarce; their oval-shaped red blood cells allow blood to flow even when dehydrated and help them survive losing up to 25% of their body water; their thick eyelashes, closable nostrils, and hairy ears protect them from sandstorms; their wide, padded feet prevent sinking into hot sand; and their ability to regulate body temperature reduces sweating, conserving water—making the camel one of the most efficient survival mammals on Earth.
