3️⃣v3️⃣
Some say it’s a ‘training exercise’ but if you designed football around 6
& 7 year old children then this is what it would look like.
Players owning their own game, making their own decisions; more shots, more touches, more dribbles, more tackles.

The Northamptonshire Women’s & Girls’ Football League were chosen as one of the FA’s Early Adopter Leagues for the new 3v3 format as part of ‘FutureFit’ - the changes being introduced to youth formats from next season. The 3v3 Festivals have been running fortnightly since the end of September and have proved to be hugely popular with players, coaches, parents and spectators with up to 50 girls playing multiple matches at each Festival and developing their skills in this exciting new format.
Players use Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who gets kick-off; there are no subs, so every player plays as much as they want, and there are no referees, so players self-officiate their games with support from a Pitch Facilitator if needed.
Feedback from players and coaches has been amazing. Willow told us ‘I had really fun today, I made new friends, and I loved saving goals!’ Thea added ‘We did play with someone from a different team on our team, so I made a new friend’.
One of the 3v3 coaches, Rhonda, said ‘All the girls enjoyed themselves. Beforehand I thought it might be chaos, but the girls took to it really well and ran their own games. I would say to other coaches, just let your players have a go, the girls here have all had the same amount of playing time and the same opportunity as everyone else and they’ve loved it.’
If you have, or know someone who has, a daughter in Year 2 or 3 who might want to try playing 3v3 then please contact [email protected] or [email protected]

Sad to see Josh stepping away from @NTFCWomen
Everything the club has achieved in the Women’s game is down to his vision & dedication.
Always grateful for the opportunity he gave me & I hugely enjoyed the 3 years I worked with him.
All the best for what’s next mate 💪🏼
Bugbrooke St Michaels had an extra special occasion within the club at the weekend, not only a win for the team but seasoned veteran Ryan Nash took to the field alongside his son Jake. Moments like this show exactly what our club is all about — developing players from youth into adult football and celebrating the family spirit that makes grassroots football so special. Jake even grabbed a goal to show up his old man! 💙⚽️
