@BobSmizik Do you believe the CFP committee is some astounding omniscient entity that isn’t at least somewhat influenced by AP and Coaches rankings?
It’s a committee of humans making a subjective … ranking … of teams. They have criteria of course but poll-driven perception is a factor
@stephenethom Nice article - he seems to have what it takes, similar to his brother. Plays harder than everyone already on top of a good bit of talent. With experience sky is the limit…big things ahead!
@LukeDeCock Good column Luke but I challenge the non conference point a little - go look at the wins of TTU or TCU or Texas or Northwestern out of conference. Why should they be getting these jump balls for entry? Their results no better. Seems like some other bias is afoot
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd See now you’ve lost me. You can’t get the most teams of any conference/80% of a league’s bids/the only non-chalk seeds into the Sweet 16 and say that. That is just not an objective assessment.
And don’t tell me the tournament results don’t matter - that’s all this is for!!!
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd I know, and neither of us can know for sure, but I believe who the media selects in mocks is absolutely influential & there is a ton of subjectivity to selections
Ultimately just want to hear from someone w influence - “on-court results show ACC was underbid, we had a flaw here”
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd There’s no argument here on the head to head results. There is a sample of 13 games including a mid level ACC team against a top B12 team in the postseason and the results are very, very clear. Again - it’s not about one being better per se - it’s that you said one is 2x better
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd lol so now wins suck? Then flip it - the B12 went 0-6 against the top 8 of ACC. Plus a 6 over 3 in tourney. Why would B12 get benefit of doubt for 2x the bids? It’s not that ACC > B12 necessarily (tho it probably is) - issue is you think B12 is MUCH greater given your bid count
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd ACC 2-0 against the Top 4 in B12 too, for the record…now 3-0 with latest win
VT (#8 in ACC) over ISU (#2 in B12)
Duke/Clem (#2, #6) over Baylor (#3)
There’s the breakdown. One of the 3 big 12 wins was Texas over lowly LOU by 1 btw
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd No - like 9-3 against the big 12. You’re ignoring that stat. And as you said in your article, ACC tied for most wins of any conference against NET Top 50
Not saying ACC was best (tho I could given S16 composition) - just saying they were underbid. Bids not commensurate
@tsnmike @cuddington_todd Inter-conference games like the ACC going 9-3 against the Big 12?
Did that help the cause of the teams in your eyes and help you better quantify the value of the conference schedule (which is 63% of the games / takes place once teams are more fully formed later in year)?
