My husband used to tell me that my motivations weren't as pure as I thought, that my love wasn't as beautiful and strong as I believed it to be, because my actions didn't express this, and I would scream. How dare you? How dare you question the narrative of my own righteousness that I built for myself? But he was calm, and insistent, and he refused to lie to me, and over the years I started to realize that the gleaming palace of ice and champagne inside my mind was a fantasy I told myself to hide the rot underneath, the trash and the garbage that I'd climbed atop of and constructed a life built on unsustainable presuppositions.

And I understood then: The lie of my good intentions gave me permission to continue committing evil. And once I saw that, really saw it, I was so horrified by the empire of trash I'd built that I was motivated to do anything I could to escape it, to stop being defined by it.

So now I say to people: Look, this is an act of evil. You are hurting yourself. Your love is not as pure as you think. And they scream. How dare you? How dare you question the narrative of my own righteousness that I built for myself?

And I force myself to breathe. To stay calm. Because I did the same thing, and this is what I deserve.

Feeling tired and overworked human being tends to lash out at their surroundings to secure some comfort or sense of safety. Not pretty but we all do it.

@TheRealKitty019 Rare miss, GRRM’s cynicism was a breath of fresh air. Too long the historical realist perspective was lost, all the grit of reality fell between the cracks of fantasy. The fantasy worlds became lame and unrelatable. Grit attracted people who notices grit in real life.

@Sine_Arrow @xwanyex This whole raft of ideas would work better if it was about The Enlightenment btw. The IR is such a silly thing to worship it could backfire in proportion to its power. Unlike the enlightenment it has not stood the test of time yet.

The best you can say is that trump slowed the rate of illegal inmigration incoming. Nothing to solve problem of illegals already in US. Nothing to solve the problem of money printing.

@Sine_Arrow @xwanyex What is this a Hirari book? The Industrial Revolution is not a good in itself. The Left Hemisphere of the brain loves growth itself and it can be easy to conflate the power of IR with its goodness.

Like all things the goodness of tech is found in its balance with other things.
