1/2 So that’s a wrap! I can’t leave the EA without paying tribute to the amazing EA staff. They perform miracles everyday - sometimes under very difficult circumstances - and often without the credit they deserve - we’re lucky to have them…
Hundreds of flood warnings remain active after torrential rain and high winds from Storm Bert.
Prof John Curtin, who worked in a variety of roles at the Enviroment Agency for over 30 years, tells @EvanHD clear messaging is needed on what to do when flood warnings are issued.
New school year! Lovely day with the new PhD students as they start their journey helping improve the flood resilience. This is a lovely tradition - students getting their Doctorates open a bottle of champagne in the common room and leave a message where the cork leaves its mark!
Welcome back Boaty - the robot warrior helping our understanding on climate change - two months at sea and dives to 6km! #TeamNOC https://t.co/OsPdP7sySx
Wow! Thank you so much to the wonderful folk @LancasterUni & @LancsUniLEC for this amazing honour! I’m pretty sure you’d of had a hell of a job convincing a teenage me this was in my future! Fantastic to meet a brilliant cohort of new graduates as they start their journeys too 😊
As part of the @CIWEM Presidential team I can’t wait for this year’s President Award nominations - with so many brilliant people in the sector time to get nominating! Spread the word… https://t.co/lTWUD6MAqP
As #floodandcoast2024 kicks off @POLITICOEurope reflects on the most worrying risk the nation faces from flooding - and how we need to prepare for it https://t.co/fgg0L5BNLF
It’s the eve of #floodandcoast2024 which means it’s time for the @CIWEM Trustees to come together to consider how best to support this fantastic organisation and its amazing members. Have to say it’s a real pleasure given this is one of the most talented bunch I’ve worked with 😊
2/ Online version here. All the maps and graphs in this hard copy show just how much we’ve come on - but also how we still tend to ensure we’re better at dealing with the flood we’ve just experienced than the one to come https://t.co/EUKN868wae
1/ Found this gem in a tidy up. The ‘Bye’ report - my home town on the front cover. As a young flood forecaster in Leamington I got cut off from my own home! Looking back this was probably the beginning of a shift to a cycle of floods we hadn’t (then!) seen for a generation….
So today was of course about the 40th birthday of the #ThamesBarrier - but personally today was also about celebrating the legend that is Andy B and his 40 years at the barrier - including him handing over the over ride button to the new manager!
