Want a patient safety and human factors course that goes beyond theory and genuinely changes behaviour – delivered by a frontline clinician?
I run and deliver the Human Factors in Healthcare course across UHSussex, and we’ve just released 24 new dates.
This is a multidisciplinary (MDT) course, open to all staff – including non-patient-facing roles – as well as colleagues from outside the Trust. The content is directly relevant across clinical, managerial and operational teams, and covers the Human Factors training required for many medical specialty training pathways.
Courses run at Brighton, Worthing, Haywards Heath and Chichester, with six courses at each site. Each course is accredited for 6 hours CPD.
The day focuses on decision-making, communication, teamwork, leadership and patient safety in complex healthcare systems.
Impact and feedback data:
– Over 5,000 people have attended the course since it started in 2015
– Since 2023, 900 completed evaluations show:
– 95% say the course is likely to improve patient care
– 96% report improved understanding of human factors and situational awareness
– 94% report improved understanding of decision-making
– Confidence in challenging senior colleagues increased from 34% before the course to over 80% afterwards
– Over 99% would recommend the course to a colleague
What people say:
“I haven’t laughed so much and remembered so much of the content of a teaching day ever before or since.”
“Rob’s human factors course plays a key part in understanding what can and does go wrong – and how to avoid these critical errors.”
“This course is a must especially for anyone involved in staff and patient safety.”
“Not only enjoyable and thought provoking, but it will have a massive impact on your clinical care.”
