In Massachusetts, Beacon Hill leaders continue to block State Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s efforts to probe legislative finances, citing constitutional concerns. Attorney General Andrea Campbell has not taken active steps to enforce the new law passed by Ballot Question 1 in November 2024. Despite voter approval, Campbell has stated she needs more information from DiZoglio on the audit’s legal strategy and scope before her office can act, drawing criticism for delaying transparency efforts.

Now, a second Democrat, State Rep. Christopher Flanagan has been arrested on alleged federal fraud charges, accused of stealing $36,000 from a trade association for personal and campaign expenses. This follows Democrat Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson’s arrest for wire fraud and theft, giving a $13,000 bonus to a relative and receiving $7,000 back as a kickback.

Why haven't more state leaders been calling for these two officials to resign from their positions due to the serious nature of their charges?

Is the resistance to transparency linked to other scandals? Taxpayers deserve clarity and the audit we voted for.
