Love this from #Illini head coach Brad Underwood - asked if he has any issue/finds it unfair to have to play Houston IN Houston in the Sweet 16.
"I could care less... I'm an old JUCO ball coach. I drove on 16 passenger fans. I drove from Dodge City, Kansas to Mesa, Arizona for a basketball game... If you had told me back then that I'm getting to coach basketball in the Sweet 16 and play Houston - I would sign up for it, I would crawl to get there."
Says regardless of where the game is, Illinois would/will need to play well to beat the Cougars.

@thescorechicago@DavidHaugh@GabeRamirez It started becoming unwatchable before NIL was prevalent. I’d argue the talent in the NBA is far greater than ever. It’s the product they put out that’s become horrendous. Style of play (all 3’s, no defense, etc.), load mgmt., egos, all contribute. Solution = fixing the product

Discussion of drug price analysis well stated here by @DrWmPadula. Would be great to hear other’s thoughts.

@ALionEye Can we get an updated version of this? Not that it makes a difference but feel like it’s a great visual for how ridiculous the whole thing is after one bad loss to #2, with half of the defense out, changed the narrative for the season.
Ja Morant’s poster on Wemby is being called “the greatest dunk that never counted”
He will now be added to the list of NBA players who refused to be stopped by the whistle or buzzer

@HowWeLearn@clayharbs82 I’d argue not shocking actually given the organization hardly talks to the media. But in reality, think Poles’ confidence might be a bit shattered
Great question.
Biggest reason is that analytics has taken a massive role in the development of the game. Launch angle, exit velo, bunch of bs in my opinion.
These are fancy words for hitting the ball hard out in front. Just people naming things to sound smart who never played.
Younger players have come up through the ranks focusing strictly on data (new school) vs results(old school)
For example, I hit .300 in 2014. Bunch of doubles, and my best statistical year. If you go watch every double I had, which was 54 total, I think?, can’t remember exactly but I’d say 15-20 of those doubles were duck fart flares. Jam shots. Lucky hits basically.
Or, conversely, were they lucky or were they a by product of a swing that was focused on a quality bat path with barrel length and time through the zone that facilitated a room for (timing) error swing? A path that led to my timing being off, getting jammed, and still fighting for a hit that drove in a run that contributed to winning a game.
This is what great hitters do. I wasn’t one of the best but I had a couple of decent years. Great , true hitters, not “swingers”, get jammed and get those extra 15-20 knocks a year that add RBIs, OBP, hits, etc.
These modern players have gotten so used to Instagram hitting coaches and mlb analytics team valuing and teaching certain things. Like homers. Trying to hit the ball in the air. Instead of low line drives with back spin.
They are great and all but if you want to be a good hitter then focus on hitting line drives and the homers will come.
Striking out is not okay either. Too many guys are fine with it. I hated to strike out. More than anything. Loathed.
This is the main issue of the modern hitter.
Dan Weishar accepted the Hemond Award before tonight's game for his inspiring work as founder of the Weishar Foundation, which raises money for families of adolescents with cancer. 👏
It was his brother Andrew's only request before he died of colorectal cancer at the age of 21.
I was a 6th grader vacationing in Arizona wearing an orange Illini shirt and walked into a restaurant after this game ended. The whole restaurant went silent and stared at me in disgust. It was awesome.
19 years later, after a ton of losing in between, finally, another Elite 8.
1️⃣5️⃣-point deficit in the final minutes?
No problem.
#OTD in 2005, @DeronWilliams' late 3 helped @IlliniMBB force OT in an epic Elite Eight comeback win over Arizona.
@JamesFox917 Hand up, I, along with most thought he was a great hire at the time. Kind of amazing how catching lightning in a bottle once (aka drafting Nikola Jokic in Denver) can fool everyone and anyone.
@JamesFox917 They absolutely should be interviewing him. Whether they hire him or not, or whether they choose Williams or Fields, do your diligence and find out from someone close to Williams all you need to know to make the best, informed decision.
@Farzad_MD@toyinajayidoc Curious, is this actually a beneficial conference for your role? Out here now and everyone complains about it, yet everyone is still here and will likely be back next year.
