Since youth in @NYCYouth RHY programs were initially promised vouchers in 2016! 11,344 young people have exited youth shelters into another homeless situation. THREE different Mayors have lied to them - and failed them!
Thank you @SafeHorizon for your advocacy!
“CityFHEPS vouchers would give youth a real pathway out of homelessness, rather than forcing them into the adult homeless shelter system.” https://t.co/QjwfHaU5SE
Too bad this audit fails
to look at DYCD RHY, since providers have been left with almost no support or guidance w/ how to deal with ICE showing up at the programs.
Mayor Mamdani's EO 13 audit shows what's at stake: ICE arrests in NYC are up 71% since January 2025 and our city agencies cannot be accomplices. MOIA applauds the audit's recommendations and remains committed to ensuring immigrant New Yorkers can safely access city services. No city agency will cooperate with ICE in violation of our laws: https://t.co/8FJgrIZl6I
EHV was the first real access to a way out of homelessness young ppl in youth shelters have had in decades, hundreds could now be forced back into shelter and the Mayors failure to finally give them access to CityFHEPS means they will be stuck once again.
7,700 NYC households are about to lose their federal rental assistance
NYC doesn’t have a plan to replace the aid for all of them after the federal govt ends the Emergency Housing Voucher program
But some families may be offered public housing units — if they apply by May 1
Without a kitchen, María and Diego said their toddler daughter lost weight during their first month’s stay at a shelter hotel in Jamaica, Queens. “Our main concern was her nutrition—that she would grow and be strong. It was very frustrating for us.” https://t.co/ghsyTeTX6L
The Council has launched a new guaranteed income program to help young New Yorkers experiencing homelessness gain stability.
With $1.5M in the FY26 budget, we’re partnering with @CovenantHouseNY to support 60 youth ages 18–24 with direct income assistance and care.
🔥Thank you @A_StevensD16 for your advocacy!
Let’s hope the @ZohranKMamdani administration does the right thing and finally gives homeless youth access to CityFHEPS vouchers.
During today’s General Welfare hearing, @A_StevensD16 pressed @NYCHRA and the Department of Social Services on CITYFHEPS access for homeless and runaway youth, highlighting the urgent need to break the cycle of homelessness early.
Watch her exchange:
NEW: Mayor Eric Adams’ Department of Homeless Services is trying out new rules that would create new grounds for kicking residents out of city shelters, THE CITY has learned.

"But only 114 of the 3,500 homeless people displaced ...moved into temporary shelter... No one was placed in permanent housing."
Contrary to @NYCMayor 's rhetoric sweeps are strictly about Broken Windows & control of space. Nothing to do w/ helping ppl.

According to City data 7 people approved for supportive housing by @NYCHRA last year died before getting it. There were thousands of empty units.
So, sure, more supportive housing. But we also need deep reforms to the barrier-ridden access process for getting into it.
