It’s a show called “The Roman Holidays,” but I had no idea there was a regular character in a 1970s Hanna-Barbera TV series whose whites of the eyes and irises were colored differently. I thought there hadn’t been any since JQ.

There are examples like Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy and The Alvin Show, but when it comes to animated series from before JQ that depict single-father households, I think Peabody is the one that most closely matches JQ’s approach.

Speaking of other Ishinomori works, I think the Sentry also resembles the Cyborg Man from Cyborg 009 (the “Underground Empire Yomi” version). 1966-67.

@ZeroFeminine That's right. Few American animated TV series were as visually spectacular as the original JQ. This series was a pioneer in the Hanna-Barbera action-adventure genre, as well as in its portrayal of realistic human characters.

@JQscreens Man there really was nothing quite as visually striking as Jonny Quest back in its day, wasn’t there? People tend to praise the atmosphere of Scooby Doo when it comes to art direction but JQ really was just as strong.

@darren_Heideman To begin with, I don't think Americans had much exposure to Ishinomori's works back in the mid-1960s. After all, 1964 was the year Cyborg 009—Ishinomori's life's work—first began.

To be honest, from a modern perspective, I think there are many scenes in the original JQ that, while not quite TV-14, would still be considered intense for a TV-Y7-FV rating.

By the way, I get the impression that TNA (1986 series) is rated TVG. I think that’s appropriate.
