Atlas Bar in Singapore has an interior inspired by the Art Deco skyscrapers of 1920s and 1930s New York.

The room rises three storeys, with painted murals, ornate detailing and a huge central tower housing its famous gin collection.

The scale and decoration are deliberately dramatic, inspired by the grand hotel and skyscraper interiors of the Jazz Age.

Even the dress code is strict but classy and elegant. From 5 pm, no shorts, sportswear, flip-flops, or sandals. Men must wear long trousers and closed-toe shoes.

It’s a great example of how architecture can determine the character of a place.
