Universities are small cities that need to be run @billmaher. The staff are advisers, psychologists, accountants, HR, trainers, chefs, housekeeping, maintenance, student activities, recruiters, tutors, architects, librarians, IT, salespeople, housing, and oh, there’s athletics.

Bill Maher asks the question many higher-ed critics want to know about college administrators...

"Yale has 5,307 undergrads and 3,500 administrators. What do they do?"

@dbessner highlights the "consumer-centered transformation," where students are now treated as consumers, and the college experience has shifted from education to entertainment.

@billmaher presses again, "What do these people do?"

@GlennLoury responds, "They have meetings. They write memos. They oversee the enforcement of regulations. They cultivate alumni for donors and they kowtow to their clients, the students... What they don't do is educate anybody. They don't write any books. They don't produce new knowledge!"

Bessner adds that this is yet another example of what many refer to as "bullsh*t jobs."
