The reason London has become the worst nightmare of the hard right is very straightforward.
People from different backgrounds not only live together and mix together, but they enjoy doing so.
That's the future of Britain, which is an apocalyptic vision, sure, if you're a bigot.
If you're on the left, the results are very heartening indeed.
- The Tories got smashed, and will lose the next election
- But this is nothing like 1997.
Labour had a 17 point lead over the Tories in the local elections before the 1997 general election.
This time, they have a 9 point lead.
Labour wasn't losing seats to parties to their left in the pre-1997 local election.
This time, Labour have haemorrhaged support to the Greens and independents.
What that underlines is a massive rejection of the Tories, but none of the enthusiasm for an opposition party set for a landslide victory of the sort on the cards for Labour.
It shows that already key parts of Labour's electoral coalition - younger people, Muslims and other minority Brits - are angry about Keir Starmer's leadership.
That's before he's even prime minister and actually enacting policies which anger people - like continued austerity, or complicity in war crimes, for example.
There is already a constituency of people in Britain who are actively rejecting Starmerism from the left.
That will only grow when Labour is in power. So the task of the left is to build on this base - and then build from there when Labour is in office.
Club Statement - Yan Dhanda
In the 30th minute of todayβs match, Yan Dhanda was subject to alleged racial abuse from a Hibernian fan.
Ross County FC and Hibernian have worked with Police Scotland to identify the male suspect, who has now been detained.
There is no place for this in our game or society as a whole.
The club will be making no further comment at this time.
Let me get this straight. Biden gives Israel a blank cheque, which it uses not only to slaughter civilians in Gaza for six months, but to bomb the Iranian consulate in Damascus, a very grave violation of international law.
US intelligence tells Biden this risks triggering a catastrophic regional war, so Biden publicly vows to protect Israel at all costs, whatever it continues to do to inflame the crisis further.
Does it not look like a depraved sociopath occupies the White House, one prepared to play a game of chicken with others' β maybe even our β lives? Because that's sure how it looks to me.
@gerags99 Dude, you might get lucky. Did you reply to the Halifax text yesterday? I got confirmation just there that theyβd tried again and it had gone through. Maybe worth emailing ticketmaster Spain explaining and asking to charge again before public sale.
Both the judge and the CPS concluded that anti-trans hatred partly explains Brianna Ghey's hideous murder.
So much of Britain's media and political elite have dehumanised trans people.
They should reflect on the fact that trans people are humans, and words have consequences.
Transfer deadline days are never going to peak the year County signed Ruben Palezuelous and it was found out because he showed up on Tinder before it was announced
Why did the International Court of Justice accept all of South Africa's arguments but not order Israel to end its genocidal military assault on Gaza?
Because it dared not take on the real culprit: the US. Biden would have been forced to wield his veto at the Security Council to block enforcement.
Identifying Washington as the sponsor of genocide marked the limit of the World Court's courage.
Never understood how anti-trans women who claim to be feminists are happy to stand with misogynists, wife beaters, anti-abortionists, menβs rights activists and the far right so long as those individuals are vocally anti-trans.
@Whattheactuali2 @MattySHS_ @AboutScotlandd @scotlandscoeff1 No it doesnβt. Youβll find most of those teams will qualify automatically so coming second or even third in the group is likely to still get you a play off spot.
