I frequently think about roleplaying games as a medium for entertainment distinct from films, books, etc., and how its particular strengths can be leveraged in game design. The mystery system for Brindlewood Bay is a direct result of this thinking. 1/
Today is Creator Day on https://t.co/C3OUp7DDRT, so it's a great day to promote City of Blades, my standalone Blades in the Dark hack!
It's a four-page mini-zine designed for one-shots and short campaigns.
It's PWYW, so check it out!

I recorded an episode of @LGNOEpodcast last week, and it was great fun! Talked about Old-School D&D, playing board games with your family, and definitely 100% for sure remembering the name of a brewery first try. Give them a follow and a listen!

@dragon_obsidian@VulpsProeliator@FreyjaErlings My answers to this would be Shadow of the Demon Lord, Fantasy AGE, Old-School Essentials, or White Box: FMAG. They all do different parts of what D&D 5e does (ie class customisation, high stakes dice rolls, and tense exploration and combat) a little better than 5e, in my opinion.
I know a lot of people have bought the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality on Itch. There are a whole pile of TTRPGs in there. I've been working with a few others to catalog all the games. There are some fantastic games in there.

fuck Electric Bastionland is like being kicked out of your parents house in your 20s and trying to survive off your overdraft while sleeping on a friends couch and begging for a job in Greggs
@JellyMuppet I think part of the issue with combat is that the stakes are set up at the beginning of combat, and those same stakes are still present and resolved at the end of combat; so what it results in is an hour of table time to answer a single question, which is a ratio unique to combat
We are making #DarkStreetsAndDarkerSecrets a PWYW (Pay What You Want) product during this time!
It's a rules light #TTRPG set in our modern time with elements of horror and fantasy, inspired by Buffy, Supernatural, X-Files, and many others.

@veneficaultrix I can't remember where I got this recipe from, but it's excellent; just need a food processor/blender, and a large frying pan/wok, and it's substantial enough that it's a meal on its own, even without bread or rice.
@JellyMuppet I've not run a West Marches game yet, but I've had 'church/abbey on top of a cliff' as a location idea for a WM game for a long time, there is something very foreboding about it.
This is a really cool looking RPG that needs a lot more attention! Based on Brazilian mythology with a focus on actually being educational about said mythology, it looks like a really novel and ambitious game
@walrustoes @Belac93@Edvorn@matthewmercer These are the MC principles for running Monsterhearts. These are not suggestions or advice, these are the rules of the game. If you're an MC and you're not "asking questions and building on the answers," or "disclaiming decision making" then you're literally breaking the rules.
