Non-US citizen police officers in California can carry a 17 round magazine in their pistol, but American citizens in California can only carry a 10 round magazine

This was signed into law by Gavin Newsom

Newsom allows noncitizens to become police officers and carry more ammunition in their magazines than American citizens

“This has just happened recently in 2023, California said, yeah, if you're a non-citizen, you can be a police officer, and that person has more access to firearms than actual American citizens and California residents”

“This is happening in many states. Just recently in the past few years in the United States, Democrats are hiring non-US citizens as law enforcement and giving them more access to firearms than actual American citizens have.”

Prior to 2023, California law required peace officers (e.g., police, sheriffs, CHP) to be US citizens or permanent residents eligible for and applying for citizenship

In September 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 960 (SB 960), which took effect January 1, 2023. This amended the law to remove the citizenship/permanent residency requirement
