Tom Steyer keeps running around saying that it’s unfair that billionaires like him can buy our democracy, then spending hundreds of millions dollars to do just that, then failing to get elected, and then repeating all the same lines the next time around. It’s extremely funny.
Ignorance of DMV’s demographics is an ongoing challenge. The District gets nearly all local media coverage, for instance, yet it’s only the 4th largest jurisdiction in the region. Fairfax, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties all have larger populations.

It IS harder to move when you’re older. Which is why polices that untether land value and taxes create perverse incentives. Rather than rightsizing and moving in middle age/at retirement, we have 85 y/olds rolling around alone in 4 BR/3BA houses.
It’s just so obviously not going to work, even if it somehow passes judicial review.

@TPCarney Of course the real solution is for local governments to just spend less and tax less overall, but everyone would rather talk about carveouts for some than limiting government for all
@TPCarney I get that it’s harder physically and emotionally for the elderly to move, but age should not be a reason to not pay the same taxes as everyone else under the same rules
