Finally finished Draft Two of Part Two. One more part to redraft (though this is shorter and needs less structural work). Then Draft 3 is about taming the word count!
#sadwriter. Spent three days on a pivotal scene. There's lots of great stuff in it, dialogue feels true to the characters, power shifts, themes are well woven in organically.
And it sucks.
Not because any individual element is bad, but strung together? it's just an infodump.
@DollyT222027@AdamLVEllis@S_L_Falls I think that's a load bearing "rn" though. Everything is riding on them finding a way to make it profitable. They report on usage stats because it looks good to VCs, but they're not making profit. If they can't figure out how to get there, and soon, something will shift.
@S_L_Falls@DollyT222027 I don't think there's any getting the toothpaste back in the tube but I'm cheered by the news the younger generations despise it.
Yesterday I threw out the entire draft 1 version of the chapter. The second version is still rough but it already works so much better.
Basically, now instead of a pivotal scene resting on bad luck, it's based on a mistake the protag made eight chapters earlier.
@realmattfalcon@Hart_Horrors For me, it's will it work for its intended audience?
Like I wasn't wowed by the Barbie movie but it's not meant for me and I think the people it is meant for would likely love it.
But then I'm the guy that Hundreds of Beavers was intended for, so what do I know?
