AfSA’s Rev. Rudi Swanepoel appeared on Hilaal TV this week to discuss farm violence and the 3 000 crosses. Do watch: the discussion takes a critical look at the campaign while showing deep empathy for victims of farm violence. We also found the interfaith dimension moving, especially given the rise in Islamophobia in South Africa.

Dominee Swanepoel is disturbed by Roets’s plans. “Crosses displayed like that will carry a particular meaning. The cross is one of the most powerful symbols in human history…I cannot go along with the cross being politicised or abused.”

@steve_hofmeyr The International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) trump your "sure-fire proofs". Isolated definitions do not warrant a conclusive argument, Steve. Without literature analysis, case studies, and theory it is just a guesstimate. Follow us for more research methodology tips!
@ErnstRoets This is when disinformation meets opportunism and profit. Every murder in South Africa is a tragedy, but this is just hijacking tragedy for a white separatist agenda. American Christian nationalism is the lifeline that emboldened Afrikaner civil religion and myth making.
What if homosexuality was never in the Bible? Watch the documentary by Sharon Roggio and Josie Peres, for free, until 25 October 2026. Big thanks to @1946themovie for making this available!
@BiancavanWyk16 This is an unfortunate reality that few recognise. People think the "incel" manosphere communities, are just extremists with keyboards and WiFi. Unfortunately, as several incidents have shown: these far-right religious echo chambers are breeding grounds for terror.
Call for Reading: this paper by Dr Ignatius Nnaemeka Onwuatuegwu, University of Awka, presents the case to refute the Incompatibility thesis which states that there is a fundamental opposition between Christianity and African identity.

'WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS'
Many Afrikaners are deeply uncomfortable with the plan by Ernst Roets, Lex Libertas and other prominent Afrikaans right-wingers to plant 3 000 white crosses in Washington, DC, on Saturday. Is concern about farm violence really driving this initiative, or is it a fundraising vehicle for their dream of white separatism?
A group of well-known SA artists is bravely challenging this narrative with an exhibition in Washington, DC, timed to coincide with the event.
Watch this Instagram video by Johan Stegmann, curator of the exhibition.

@NemPerez@grok@imagine If this is historically accurate, then I'll eat my hat. Women carrying Odysseus and then suddenly guards, a cyclops with three eyes, and 4 minutes that would make Homer weep for the bastardisation of his epic. This is terrible.
