No child needs to be on social media, the damage it does far outweighs the benefits of them having it, find it odd that anybody would be against a ban and want their child on these platforms, the government and these platforms have a responsibility to protect children.
There will be lots of outrage today about the social media ban & legitimate fears about privacy/data protection
But worth pointing out how much personal information we already give away. Face scans every time we use Apple Pay. Email addresses logging into random WiFi networks.
BBC: “What was your screen time?”
Student: “Nine hours.”
BBC: “You’re gong to have a lot more time to fill. What will you do?”
Student: “Stare at a wall.”
🚨 NEW: YouTube has hit out at the UK's social media ban for under-16s
"YouTube is a vital resource for young people, educators and parents. Blanket bans push kids out of such curated, supervised, beneficial experiences and towards anonymous, less safe services"
This ban has nothing to do with protecting children. It is a means to an end for the de-anonymisation of the internet, which is what they've always wanted. Every day, politicians log on here and get called mean words by people with frog avatars, and that really impacts them.
Studies in AUS found that since the social media ban went into effect teenagers are significantly less educated on news and events and more ignorant on what’s going on in the world. This is the goal. Western govts saw the rise of the information age and are seeking to quash it
Please stop asking parents.
Parents are tech illiterate, not technical experts and don’t get to decide what the entire country must endure.
They also weren’t told that mandatory identity verification would be required for everyone. Poor reporting from the BBC.
Kate Middleton looking angry and the kids looking completely uncomfortable and confused, getting booed during trooping the colour. If looks could kill. Princess Kate didn't like that.
The idea that the government wants to be able to tell me as a parent that my kids can no longer use YouTube by legal decree really underlines what a horrible, silly government we are currently suffering under.
If (like me) you love that makerfield has us rehashing the same arguments for a month straight, you’ll be delighted to realise that a Burnham win means a Manchester mayoral election and a Labour Party contest so we can keep this going a few months more
So we just let Internet curfews for 17-year-olds happen, like we're North Korea or China, and no one bats an eyelid because "social media bad"? This is sinister, controlling, dangerous stuff.
Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.
We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

Absolutely infuriating that one of my colleagues has decided that what Parliament should focus on in the coming months - given everything going on in the world and here at home - is bringing back the assisted dying bill. Head in hands.
