Dosunmu’s agents, Mike Lindeman and Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, worked with Timberwolves executives on Monday night to land the long-term commitment. Dosunmu and Anthony Edwards gained a chemistry after his arrival from Chicago in February.
Free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu intends to sign a five-year, $112 million contract to return to the Minnesota Timberwolves, with a player option in the fifth season, sources tell ESPN. Timberwolves made it a major priority to lock in Dosunmu after his tremendous postseason.
After offloading Julius Randle's contract to Brooklyn, Minnesota is now $52 million beneath the 1st apron.
How could they spend that $62M?
- Re-sign Ayo Dosunmu for $15-$20M
- Absorb up to $33.3M in a trade while using the trade exception generated in the Randle trade
- The full non-taxpayer midlevel exception (up to $15M in starting salary)
- Signing draft picks (currently pick No. 33 and No. 59)
- Re-signing free agents: Conley, Clark, Hyland, Anderson
Using an exception (trade or midlevel) would hard cap them at the 1st apron.
Just in: Minnesota is sending Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that sends Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. The Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick for Randle and No. 28.
@2wordsnazreid There’s a reason that dude has blocked me, to prevent credible people like me and other journalists with real information from getting in his replies and negating them
The Timberwolves reportedly would only trade Jaden McDaniels for Nikola Jokić or Giannis Antetokounmpo, per @MikeAScotto
“Other teams have always called on rising swingman Jaden McDaniels. Minnesota has made him essentially untradable unless it was for a blockbuster trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo orNikola Jokic.”
