@nerosurgeon This pretty boy ain’t topped any man a day in his life. From the first cock he sucked till now, he’s been servicing men and enjoying it like the good queen that he is
And if Buck has a brief return to Buck 1.0 it'll be because people thought the show "made Buck gay" and because people think the show will "make Buck straight again" after Tommy breaking up with him. Neither are true. Buck is and will still be bisexual regardless of who he dates.
The "general audience" is not in the fandom and will literally only remember that Buck kissed a dude in a couple episodes because said character was barely around. That was the point of him never being fully integrated into the cast despite opportunity to do so.
Just gonna add one thing to this: only one section of the fandom was confused by this. The other section was so confident they were celebrating the second Buck in green dropped and some were making bets. They had been calling it for weeks when that Oliver interview dropped.
Buck's relationship with Tommy was not about breaking the hamster wheel, or finding his soulmate. Neither of them ever put that much effort into it beyond basic companionship. It was always about Buck's journey of self-discovery, which will continue even after Tommy's gone.
It's not OOC for Tommy to not want to fight for this relationship. He's never fought for it. He made a move because Buck was interested, he followed Buck's lead, but he knew that Buck was not asking him to move in for the right reasons and it was time to call it.
And therein lies the reason why to Tommy, Buck was "Evan." Whether it's to symbolize not knowing him, or to force some kind of emotional distance because he knew the relationship wouldn't last, it was a warning to the audience all along.
Looking back, this makes sense. Buck was setting the pace of the relationship, but it took 6 months and him panicking over not really knowing Tommy after all that time to ask him to move in. Neither of them made an effort to really get to know one another beyond surface level.
Tommy's words insinuate that he has always known that this relationship had a built in expiration date. He concedes Buck's point that it doesn't HAVE to mean this isn't Buck's last relationship just because it's his first with a man, but in this case, he believes it does.
Tommy finally admits that he doesn't see this relationship going anywhere, not because he doesn't care, but because he thinks Buck is riding the high of his first relationship with a man. It's fitting that Abby should be tied into this, because he did the same with her.
Josh doesn't know Tommy but he relates to his experience and puts it in a different perspective for Buck, who then overcompensates for his insecurity by asking Tommy to move in. It's not a first for him, and it shows that this relationship never got him off the hamster wheel.
Instead he is upset because he thought he knew Tommy, and he "didn't think he would be capable of being this dishonest or cruel." It triggers a lot of Buck's insecurities, and their relationship lacks the foundation to comfort him.
There was an opportunity to make it about the pickup game that led to all of this, but instead this scene focuses on the topic of exes and kickstarts Buck's spiralling. He isn't upset that Tommy dated a woman, nor is he upset that he didn't come clean about being Abby's "himbo."
Finally, we come to 8x06. We start with an anniversary date where we learn they have been dating for 6 months. Buck doesn't get Tommy a gift, which is unusual for his character, and Tommy gets Buck basketball tickets, when Buck doesn't like basketball.
He also shows up to send off Billy Boils, but at a distance. It's made clear in this scene that Tommy hasn't wanted to kiss Buck since his skin condition, and while Tommy says that's not true, the little dialogue at the end before he follows Buck shows us this is a lie.
From there, Tommy does show up to support Buck and the others when Denny is in surgery, though we see he is still "outside" of the 118 despite having some connection to nearly everyone present. He is not included in the family group chat.
This becomes apparent when Buck tries to talk about what he's learned about Billy Boils, and Tommy repeatedly brushes him off because he wants to sleep. It's not necessarily negative depending on your POV but it does feel like another example of the two being mismatched.
We next see them when Buck is doing his deep dive and Tommy is helping take care of his injury. The scene focuses on Tommy's exasperation at Buck's research and unwillingness to go to sleep, in part because he needs to rest to heal, but also because Tommy is exhausted (his words)
It COULD have been about that, though, if the writers had wanted it to be. This was intentional, because Eddie is not a real person choosing to stay and be a third wheel. The scene focuses more on the curse, and Eddie and Tommy's shared disbelief in it.
