IYKYK…had a control valve go out on our ILS valve block and naturally, it was the over Memorial Day weekend. That was an expensive after hours call! Thankfully @PrairieLandJD had what we needed and I was back up and running in no time. 🤘 #johndeere#parts#farming#kansas
We have a nice stretch of drying weather ahead, so you know what that means…time to lay down ALL the hay! With the alfalfa and these oats, we’ve got about 80 acres of hay on the ground…and we’re still not done. There’s some good looking feed out here! I’m curious how well the other odds and ends will dry down and what their feed value will be. #farming #ranching #kansas #oats #hay
Fender Pigweed Check-In! It’s definitely about 6 inches…you know…perfectly average. After a while of driving around, it’s not overly happy with it’s situation with all the heat from the engine. How much longer do you think it’ll last? #farming#ranching#kansas#ford#pigweed
This pigweed problem is getting out of hand…I’m gonna have to start applying pre-emerge to my dang pickup now! Let’s hear the predictions. How big do you think this weed will get before it gives up? #farming#ranching#ford#kansas#pigweed
Crisp imagery. 📸 Long-endurance flight. ✔️ USA-made. 🛠️
We’ve been impressed by what we’ve seen from SiFly’s drone technology so far! This season, we’re putting it to the test across row crop acres. More photos and updates to come as we continue learning how it performs in the field.
Did the Cover Crop not work? Or did YOU not work? I have been seeing a lot of bilge lately from the mentally lazy and the intellectually dishonest blaming the cover crops for their shortcomings. Regenerative practices are not as simple as following the label on a jug. Often times they take a considerable amount of critical thinking and (more importantly) a willingness to be wrong. So the next time you try something new, and it doesn’t work…start figuring out where you went wrong by first looking into a mirror. #farming #ranching #covercrops #regenerativeagriculture #kansas
The first pic is the air temp midmorning. The 2nd is soil temp. As it gets hotter keeping soil temp cooler is critical for maximum biological activity. Why we farm this way with #covercrops and #notill#agriculture#soilhealth#conservation
This is the key thing; Proper Management. Don’t just slap a cover crop out and expect it to manage itself. The people who do that are mentally lazy and will then scream “cOVeR CRoPs aRE a ScaM!” because they didn’t do any critical thinking beforehand. #covercrops#notill
An on-farm study utilizing cereal rye ahead of corn and soybeans in Wisconsin found improved yields when the cover was managed properly, says independent research agronomist Jim Stute. https://t.co/GrgcrF0nwp
It is genuinely terrifying how much stuff was crammed into the cab of this truck...
On a positive note, I found all my missing gloves...and my cups...and my favorite cattle flag! Now to get everything put away. #farmlife#kansas#ranchlife#ford#farming#ranching#calving
Every proud farmer/rancher dreads this day...it's the day we will have to swallow our pride and ask our kids for help doing something. It'll be ok...it's just gonna sting for a bit when we first ask. I just hope my kid(s) don't want any team names. I don't know if my pride will allow that! #farmtok #ranchtok #farming #ranching #kids

Did you know that properly managed livestock can return up to 85% of consumed nutrients back to your fields? 🌱
Livestock integration isn't just about managing animals, it's one of the most powerful tools for building soil health.
By managing the timing, intensity, frequency, and duration of grazing, you can improve nutrient cycling, build plant resilience, and reduce your need for external inputs.
Are you using livestock as a soil health tool on your operation?

@GreenCoverSeed This is a constant battle I have with people when trying to talk to them about cover crop blends. Getting people to look beyond the obvious goal of cattle feed and expand their scope is a challenge. Well worth it though!!
Why would you want to include unpalatable species in your grazing mix?
Seems pretty counterintuitive but there's a strong reason here.
By adding species like flax and certain brassicas to your grazing mixes, you ensure that some biomass is being left behind after the livestock move through the paddock.
Those plants continue to run through their life cycle, pumping carbon into the soil which feeds microbial life. As your below ground life improves, the quality of your next forage crop will improve as well.
It's important to select a well-rounded mix that'll meet your grazing needs. Check out our SmartMix Calculator to customize your very own cover crop mix: https://t.co/oqdNEka2N7

Why do people protect their test plot data like it’s the damn nuclear codes? It’s just bare bones planting date and final yield. ZERO context added. That is going to change this year with the plot @CentralValleyAg and I are doing. Stay Tuned!
