Every year some form of this article comes out. How much of this is the expectations of what you “should” be able to afford vs. the reality of living today in a global tier 1 city?
Yet teachers, govt employees, creatives all manage to live there too…
As OpenAI and Anthropic prepare to go public, San Francisco tech workers making six figures say they cannot compete with the new A.I. elite. Some doubt they can afford to stay.
@emollick Employees recognize the gap between the homegrown chatbot vs. something from OAI/Ant. Most firms just do not have the eng. talent or budget to match something made by the labs and continuously maintain & improve over time
@omooretweets Adding that it also arm you with questions to ask before walking into these kinds situations.
Personal use case is apartment hunting in NYC.... You make a decision off of a 10 minute tour, sometimes on the spot. Make sure you extract as much info as possible in that time
@midjourney leaning into one of the original promises of AI: Improved health outcomes for people
First thought while watching this video is HBO's Westworld
Finally someone does it. It makes me wonder how many larger Wealth Management firms are debating building something like this but have concerns about their existing advisor base
Coinbase shipped an AI that can LEGALLY give you financial advice. This is actually interesting!
Coinbase just launched Coinbase Advisor, in production, for real. You talk to it in plain English, and it reads your full portfolio and history, suggests actions, and flags ideas you'd have missed. It stays non-discretionary, so you confirm every trade. (you're accountable, after all)
The product is slick, but the legal structure underneath it is doing the heavy lifting.
They incorporated Coinbase Advisors, LLC (CRD #342338), registered it with the SEC as a Registered Investment Adviser and with the CFTC and NFA as a Commodity Trading Adviser, and took on fiduciary duty under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. An 85-year-old statute, pointed at an LLM.
Pointed at a freakin LLM, people!
"First SEC-registered AI adviser" might be better described as "First SEC-registered LLM adviser." Betterment and Wealthfront have been registered robo-advisers for a decade, doing small bits of this.]
What's new is a generative, conversational, non-discretionary agent carrying RIA and CTA credentials together, in one app, across crypto, equities and derivatives.
That's wildly different to a chatbot with a disclaimer that gives generic best-practice information.
What I love about this is Coinbase just went and executed. They didn't wait for a new law or a sandbox. The US read the 1940 Act, registered inside it, and put the product live for customers.
The UK is scaffolding it. A new "targeted support" regime (PS25/22) goes live in April, and the FCA runs supervised AI Live Testing cohorts for firms that want to trial exactly this. But a trial is not a live product.
There's one catch: today it only sees what's inside @coinbase. Your bank, pension and other brokerages stay invisible.
Robinhood's Cortex already does the conversational, portfolio-aware part. It just labels the output "informational, not advice."
But wouldn't it be WAY cooler if this saw ALL of your accounts?
Coinbase's launch video is below.
If and when access is restored this incident will delay broader enterprise rollouts as CIOs all over will need to understand potential risks
Also what does this mean for all future model launches from now on? Did this set the precedent for US gov sign off
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

@Jack_Raines They also just aren’t going to event or places where drinking is the main activity (imo this is a good thing to age out of for everyone). Plenty of places where drinks cost much less than $25 but I don’t think they’d enjoy being in that crowd.
Most exciting part of the Strade Bianche was the races for the 2-10 spot and not the win. Pogačar has no comparison.
Seemed like Del Toro accepted the podium place and lets Paul Seixas take 2nd.
Most sustainable options allow for the social lubricant to take its effect (midway thru second drink) while limiting impact to the next day
For me what works best is;
1) Daydrinking
2) Friday happy hour
Then a big dinner and drinks night out once a month or so
"The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
